  1. We have had a terrible season out here on Lake Havasu. Way too many deaths and accidents. Just in the past three weeks, we have had four fatalities and numerous injuries. I have various rules on my boat to try to avoid issues, but still question how all these issues keep happening. Cheers, Steve
  2. Obviously, something is not correct. What is the RPM at WOT? More important, what is the altitude where he is running the boat? This will make a big difference. When I had my conquest with a 525, I ran a 24p. (However, for lake powell, I had to run a 22p due to the elevation.) I tried a labbed 26p. It lowered my RPM's a bit and kept me from hitting the rev limiter, but the holeshot and getting on plane was terrible. Also, I lost top end. Some shops have shop props that they will let you test. I would start with a bravo 22p and log the temp, altitude, speed and RPM. Lastly, how are you measuring the speed? Hopefully he has a GPS speedo and not a non GPS speedo--which, in my opinion, are worthless. The 22P should put you in the correct RPM range. Cheers, Steve

  4. I have a dual set up. SOP for me is that the switch is turned off when the boat comes out of the water. I now leave the starboard battery on a tender. It is no fun to forget to turn off the battery switch and have a dead boat when you want to go out. Of course, that is the time when all the relatives are in town with all their little brats and I have a dead boat. Well..... maybe that was a good thing.
  5. With my rig and the digital gauges, I have found that 7 seems to be the right trim for my boat/motor/prop/driver at WOT. However, every set up has variables that testing should help determine the most effective approach. Cheers, Steve
  6. Today was the first time I have had a "weed" issue. After a drive through the Channel, I was accelerating past the wake zone and the motor felt like it was cavitating. I assumed weeds, and stopped. I lifted the motor up and what appeared to look like a prehistoric dodo bird nest floated away. All was then good. Cheers, Steve

  10. My double bimini has been up 100% since we picked it up from the dealer. Even with it up, if one wants to get some sun, there is plenty of sun up towards the bow. Did I mention it gets a bit warm here? Cheers, Steve

  13. Awesome news. I tried last year to see if Bennington would allow me to run the 400 on my boat. I didn't want to void my warranty. I also wanted to make sure the boat and hull would be safe. They told me I couldn't upgrade to the 400. If they are offering it, I will look into this again. I mentioned to the wife as we were going to lunch today that Bennington was offering the 400. She asked, "will it make the boat go faster?" I said "yes." She said "So when are you trading for it?" I am not sure if she meant trading the motor or the boat. I'll just assume approval for either. If I do buy a new boat, I learned to wait until Dec or Jan to get a good deal. Hence, if I plan it, I will sell my boat now during the season and be boat less for a few months. We shall see.   15. I was on my fathers Bertram Boat off Catalina Island when we were boarded by Fish and Game. My son and dad were fishing and I was reading a book. I saw them coming in their black tactical jumpsuits. There were three officers. Two were nice, but the third--who seemed to be in charge-- was a jerk. He demanded to see my fishing license. Told him I'm not fishing. His position was that I had to have a fishing license since people were fishing. I disagreed politely, the first time. He kept it up with threats of citing me etc. He then stated he was coming on board to search the boat. He has that right. As the boat was rocking, I knew it was a matter of time until they saw my holstered gun. So I let them know I had a gun and a ccw. I let him look at my ccw. He claimed it was only good in the issuing county and I needed a fishing license. I had enough. I explained the ccw was good in the state and gave him the penal code. I then asked him for the F&G code he would cite me for "not fishing without a fishing license." He had no answer. The other two officers were rolling their eyes at the idiot. I then told him he no longer had PC to be on the boat and to get the hell off. I gave him a heads up on a bit of my background and I handed him my business card as he kept threatening me. He took it and quietly left. I found out he was transferred back east somewhere.
