LIST YOUR SPECS HERE

172 posts in this topic

We're starting this thread to collect everyone's specs in one place. That way, anyone wanting to know how the different options will affect their own boat just can look in one spot to see everyone else's real world experiences.

Just hit the reply button to this post, which quotes the format, and edit it to fit your specs. Simple and easy.

Make sure you get in the small details like the size of your pontoons, do they have strakes, the brand, model name and HP; that sort of thing. If you happen to have a specialized option like the ESP or Dual Elliptical setup, or perhaps are running a jack plate, mention that too.

Oh, almost forgot... Let's try and keep this thread "single purpose". If you are reading the thread and realize you have a particular comment or question for someone in regards to their specs & numbers, just start a thread in the forum and make sure to include the person's Online Name in the thread title so that they know you wanted to ask them something.

That's about it. Have at it! B)

KAYDANO's BOAT:

  • Boat Model --------- 24 SSL
  • Model Year --------- 2012
  • Tube Option -------- Express Tube Package with strakes on both sides of all 3 tubes
  • Motor #1: Mercury 115 HP Four Stroke (2012)
  • Prop #1: 3 Blade Mercury Black Max 13.75 X 15p..... 35mph @ 6400rpm on GPS
  • Prop #2: 13.8 x 13p Mercury Spitfire (Pontoon Series)..... 32 mph @ 6400 rpm on GPS.
  • Comments: The Spitfire is a tad slower top end, but the lower pitch is incredible on acceleration and gives significantly better tubing performance, although not enough to keep me from trading in the 115 for a 150.
    .
  • Motor #2: Mercury 150 HP Fourstroke (2013)
  • Prop #3: Mercury Black Max 15 x 15 (aluminum)..... 41 MPH, 5800 RPM with light load (just me, full tank).
  • Prop #4: Mercury Enertia 15 x 15 (stainless steel)..... 42 MPH, 5800 RPM with light load (just me, full tank). 39 MPH at 5700 RPM with 8-9 passengers, full tank of gas, and full gear (coolers, anchors, etc).
  • Comments: After lots of driving with both props, the Black Max is only about 1 MPH slower than the Enertia at the top end. I got 42 MPH on GPS with the Enertia for just a few seconds today, but 99% of the time I get 41 MPH on the GPS. I hit 41 MPH with the Black Max, but much of the time it maxed out at 40 MPH. The difference between the two is holding power. The Black Max was VERY touchy and just the slightest amount of trim would cause it to ventilate in turns at practically any speed. The Enertia is like night and day when it comes to handling. It does not ventilate until I've trimmed up substantially more. This is a big deal when you are pulling tubes, as having a delicate touch on the trim is just one more thing to worry about with the Black Max. Dollar for dollar, the Black Max is very impressive on top speed. The Enertia really shines in handling though. The only way I'd put the Black Max back on my boat is if the Enertia got wrecked somehow.
    .
  • Comments on the 150 vs the 115: If you plan to give exciting rides when pulling a tube, you will not be impressed by the 115. It is just not enough motor. The 150 does all that I ask of it. One thing I found interesting is at any given mph, the 150 actually used LESS gas than my 115 did. Another interesting thing, and perhaps the biggest difference between the two motors is the 115 REALLY bogs down with just a few people in the boat. With the 115, when pulling a tube with a half full boat of people my top speed would drop nearly in half, especially in turns. With 7 or 8 people on board, I was lucky to hold 16 MPH in a turn pulling a tube with the 115. The 150 on the other hand only dropped a couple MPH in top speed with 7 or 8 people on the boat. I don't know how it does this, but it is amazing. As far as tubing with the 150, lets just say I never go full throttle with it. However, with the 115 it was pretty much full throttle all the time when tubing. Looking at the specs, the 150 is only 35 HP more, which doesn't seem like much on paper. But in real-world use, the 150 is like having two 115s hanging off the back of the boat.
