And many Mercury motors now REQUIRE AGM cranking batteries. It's not a suggestion. It's a requirement by Mercury. My 250 HP V8 requires an AGM. Some dealers try to circumvent this, because they are more expensive, and they have their own ideas about batteries.

The battery is not Bennington's problem. It's the dealer that rigged your boat. They don't come from Bennington with batteries. It's a dealer install. The battery to power steering is fused on my boat. Blown fuse is a common solution to power steering problems. It hangs right off the battery...
