21' with SPS and 150HO G2 I get 43mph with three adults.

To bad your salesperson had no clue about what they were selling. If you could afford to go up to a 150 then he/she should have showed you the G2 150HO (FYI just because the 135HO puts out 148 doesn't mean its in the same category as the 150. It is totally different, you go from V4 to a V6)...

I really don't think it has anything to do with the motor. I would first start with the batteries, led lights draw very little power and you should be able to run them for quite some time before worrying about draining the battery to far. So something else has to be draining them.

Most likely more of a money talks scenario than they know what they are doing. Personally know one of the other 3 companies that were bidding to buy them. They also knew exactly what they were doing and in fact held market share in many of the other categories that Polaris competes in.
