While under the helm wiring in a GPS and sonar, I noticed my Kicker radio has an external antenna. It is a classic dipole with a larger diameter feeder that branches off into two smaller wires. All are white and easy to find. There is no end termination at all, just a bare cut end. Dipoles work best when stretched out to each side of the feeder, so I extended it's length and secured the ends as far apart as possible. I tested it on some distant FM stations and they are definitely better.
Of course there is not enough room to fully stretch the dipole, but if yours is wadded up or coiled, you will find that "stretching" it out a bit will help. TT
