antifoul or lift

Hi All,

I have ordered a 22SS Twin Elliptical, Salt Water Series Pontoon boat, ETA November, which will be stored either in the water or on an air lift in front of my house in salt water. Undecided at this stage.

- Should I antifoul or air lift my boat? Can’t have fixed lifts like you guys have. An Australian made ‘Airberth’ costs close to $20,000 Aussie dollars (US$14,500), a lot of money and a little unsightly.

The other concern is the gap in the bottom of the transom where the anode bracket is. I have pulled a couple of photos off the internet to show what I’m referring too. I presume the inside base of the transom will be permanently under the waterline , hence will need to be anti fouled too.

- Does the inside base of the transom tend to get very dirty with all that water sloshing about? Obviously those who have either a SPS or EPS hull don’t have this transom configuration.

- As for the fuel tank on the transom of the Twin Elliptical, is it a poly or built-in alloy?

Thank you all for an interesting forum.

I personally would lift the boat. Anti fouling helps but even the big boat owners that leave in the water year round have to hire divers for hull cleaning monthly and pull the boat out every couple of years for cleaning and repainting.

I have the pontoons and the area you are referring to bottom painted. The inside base of that transom area does pick up growth. I pull my boat for the winter and pressure wash it at that point to get all the growth off.

My fuel tank is poly but I don’t have the twin ellipticals.

Thanks guys for your advice. I decided to purchase a 2nd hand ‘Airberth’ boat lift. Still have to add some horizontal skids for a little more hull support. Boat is currently being shipped to Australia.
