Dock question

If everything goes well so we can get this boat... I have to go buy a few dock sections,,, the boat is 22-24 foot long,, does the dock have to be that long too? Or can I go shorter? Will a few bumpers along the dock be good ? I may try to get old fire hose next year to put on it... I'm on a fast moving creek, I can't put big pylons in so I was thinking of getting metal poles and jetting them in since it all has to be temporary docks, will this be ok?.... Does anyone know where I can maybe get a cheap ride on lift dock? Thanks!!
