My Simrad G05, just in the wrong location!

Having used my Benny in the Florida Keys several times and again on several shallow rivers in our area, I have become particularly irritated with the Plotter being beneath the Steering Wheel. I was always having to look around or thru the Steering Wheel (see picture). As you can see the Simrad is obscured by the wheel.

So, again I asked my Dealer if there was any way to “Swap” the location of the Kicker and the Simrad. In my use of our Benny, the Simrad is far more important than the Kicker which is only used to bluetooth music content from our mobile phones. The Simrad is used for fishing, navigating and most importantly Depth Soundings. The decision was made...do the Swap! Again our dealer knew an amazing Fiberglass guy who enlarged the opening for the Simrad and filled in the opening for the Kicker. You simply can’t see any imperfections in the gelcoat.

This, for me, is a much better layout.

They did a great job with that swap. And what brainiac thought that original location for the Simrad was the way to go? :rolleyes:

I’m very pleased! However, I can see where a younger crowd would have more interest in Audio. I just use the G05 too often to be bothered with peering around a steering wheel. Now, if I could just find a good used G07 display to replace the G05??? The G07 allows for an external alarm and the display is larger. The G05s internal alarm is pretty usless.

Great job. Makes so much more sense than the the factory layout. Looks like a 7” would fit as well. Congrads
 
If anyone hears of a good deal on a GO7 Display, even used, please let me know!
 
Danny, that came out really nice! However, my first thought would have been to adjust the position of the steering wheel so the spokes would be in a "Y" formation while going straight. Ultimately, what you had done will allow for high visibility no matter how the wheel is turned.
 
I tried adjusting the steering wheel but it was always in the way. I have noticed on some of the new models they have raise the location of the Simrad which is a vast improvement. Now if I can only find a G07 display on the cheap!
