Need opinion

I have a Yamaha 225. It has 500 hrs and is 11 yrs old. My shop tells me that I need a timing belt ($150) and a hydraulic belt tensioner ($450) plus labor. They feel that the belt is a little loose when the engine is cold. It tightens up once the engine runs 15 or so seconds. The belt show no wear or cracks. I think they are looking at the hours and age. Anyone have any problems or opinions??

You maybe taken for a ride, the belt would loosen as it heats up, not the other way around. they are probably looking at the hours. If it has no cracks and doesn't show the wear, I would be inclined to let it be. I would also google the parts and check on the tensioner, seems 450 is a little high.
