Road trip with a pot of gold at the end...

And some pics of the damage...I fought a dock in 25kt winds and the dock won. The other side is still pretty

Nice! But what happened to the side of it? And is that the Mrs. holding the other end of the tow rope???? Why not just set it on the pylon?

I read somewhere recently that for training first time children, many times they feel more comfortable with an adult hanging onto the rope vs. being tied to the boat. Never tried it but I could see how that may help them feel a bit more at ease, and sometimes it's just that little extra they need. Especially for skiing when they fall and don't let go right away.

Interesting idea I never thought of - may try it for ours kids when they are ready.

Yes it is a teaching method. We have never used it. My father in law had a boom on the side of his MasterCraft. The kids were right next to the boat when they learned....

That is a ski trainer (like skis with tubes on the sides for stability ) It is a stand up that you put your feet in. The 5yo was being pulled and the person holding the rope (wife) let’s go if they fall so they don’t get dragged. You only go max 15mph.

When we tube we use the pylon.

I did break it in... well said link.

As to what happened we had some very high winds and we had to go across to another island. She did fine in the 3’ chop although it was not something I would recommend. The issue was docking.

I docked fine with only a small bump...issue was I though the front rope was secure and I shut off the engine. The wind coming from the side and a bit of the front just bounced us down the pylons on the dock before I could restart the engine and stop it.

She now has some battle scars like me.

Never shut down the engine until everything is secure, and always start the engine before untying. Just my opinion.

Bork, I missed this thread the first time around. We live in the Omaha area and bought our Benny from Sealand. Jay and the rest of the guys do a great job.

Thanks for the explanation. Makes sense now. I was thinking, that is a strong woman!!!

Ouch!! Sorry about your mishap. If you makes you feel any better, I did the same thing many years ago with our first boat the first summer we had it, except I had no one to blame except for me! Big dumb rookie boater mistake. Came in a little hot to a cement dock (b/c I had to pee) and crunched the front end of our new deck boat. Very embarrassing, and in front of 5 or 6 other couples we had down for the weekend. That's why we all carry boaters insurance. The fiberglass was repaired, as good as new, and needless to say, I never did that again! We learn by our mistakes and move on. You still have many memories to make on your new boat and this first trip, starting in Nebraska and ending in Florida and then back home, will definitely be one of them! Good luck the rest of the trip!

Storm just skirted us. We got wind and a bit of rain. North of is got hit harder.

@BulldogsCadillac ... don’t worry I don’t care at all. In fact I learned a ton on this site and many of those things were sidebars on other threads.

For the PTM edge it’s a great product however I lost the thumb nut (in the water) that holds it to the base. Anyone have an email for them I can get another one.
Contact me anytime.. jason.blanton@protomet.com.. Fun reading thread.
