This is my extended family here and I thought I’d share some photos of my best frIend that I had to let go Saturday night. He was almost 17 and I had him almost 16 years. We got him from a lady that couldn’t afford him.
Please post up pics of your little buddy/girly to help heal my heart. To say I’m completely devastated is a monumental understatement.
I have never felt the anguish Ive felt the last couple days. He was beside me every moment I was at home since 5/3/2005. The first pic he's 2 or 3 , the rest are from later years.DE48FB50-ABCA-4B26-A51F-19302BE9B68E.jpegBFCFAA2A-9312-412A-A372-7E917BF5C379.jpeg229A6DEA-D6D5-4402-9283-357A4DC6DEE5.jpeg59BC52B1-267E-44EF-98A6-37E38C4AEE9F.jpegB0CC743A-964C-4477-B3F1-C2FF84672A6C.jpeg

Very sorry to hear Semp/panthergirl! He'll always be a part of your family, a part of your life! Just have to remember all of the good memories you guys have with him. We were so broken up over losing Darby, our beagle/shepherd mix back in 1997 we NEVER got another dog......

Condolences on your loss. Without going into details, I will say I know the feeling. Time is the key to healing.

I'm sorry for your loss, I wasn't a pet person and didn't understand the attachment until we got our gsp, they capture your heart with their unconditional love and affection and become such a huge part of your life.

So sorry for you Dave. We had to say goodbye to our companion Largo January 31st after 13 years. I still find myself taking a wide path around the couch thinking he is still laying there. Sucks.

So sorry for you.
I always say that our Vet has seen me cry more than anyone.
Such a sad totally empty feeling.
I hear you. I read an article yesterday concerning pet loss and it stated most individuals grieve more than the loss of a family member . It’s due to the continuous attachment from 1st to last day. They stated the closest comparison is the loss of a “younger” child to parent prior to “going their separate ways”. The separation starts to break the “extreme bond” that’s not lost with a pet. It also typically isn’t as extreme with people who have “children at home” as that’s their primary focus. For childless people like us, they are our “children”. This pain right now is almost unbearable.

I know what you mean Andy. Gizmo would lay under my desk so I find myself still keeping my feet to the sides of my chair so I won‘t (present term like he’s still there) accidentally kick him.

I am heartbroken for the two of you. Such a big loss, especially after the constant companionship these past 16 years. Sending thoughts and prayers to each of you in the days ahead. I am not sure I totally appreciated these loses until getting our dog Leo. He is 3.5 years old and our constant companion. Leo sends his best to you. Here are a bunch of pictures from this winter:

So very sorry to hear that. I can't imagine how difficult it must be. Here are some pics of our Mia, enjoying our boat.

Sorry for the loss of your pet.

Growing up on a farm, I always cared about animals and pets, but never 'loved them'. I never understood how people would be so depressed and emotional when they lost a pet.

But...

New Years Eve 5 years ago, in single digit temps, we found a dog and 3 very small puppies (later found out they were probably born on Christmas Day) in a field just outside of Green Bay. We eventually got them in the car (had to entice them with lots of food) and took them to an emergency animal hospital (as everything else would be closed for several days with the holiday). Two of the puppies died within hours and the vet said the other puppy probably won't make it. The mom (a stray that got out) had a rabies tag on her collar and they were able to track down the owner. We decided to 'rescue' the 3rd puppy. This is Maggie, now 5 years old. She has become such a huge part of our lives and can truly say that I love her to death. I now understand how people can be so attached to an animal. I will be devastated when she leaves us.

Know how you feel Dave, I couldn’t go to work for 3 days after losing our cat. Never owned a dog but am known as the dog guy in our community as I carry biscuits on the golf cart, car, in my shed by the driveway and in our Florida room. Here is a picture of Eddy and the decal on our car and golf cart
