Fontana is in the mountains of western North Carolina. Built by TVA during WWII to power an Alcoa Aluminum mill in East Tennessee. Smoky Mountain National Park to the north boundary, Natahala Nationally Park on the south. Almost no development for 15 miles upstream from the dam.
