Go here http://www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/prop-selector/# and fill out the required information and they will recommend what prop to use. Every degree of pitch you go down you should pick up around 150 to 200 RPM is what I was told.
I'm guessing you have the same problem I had with the motor being way over propped! I had a 15 P on a 150 and couldn't get RPM up to the 5600 to 5700 range factory says it should be. Good grip but no top end speed!
our 2550 rcw with a 150 optimax is hitting 32 mph WOT and turning about 5200 rpm. Just went to a 16' 13 Pitch to get RPMs up. I suspect I have a few more mph if I get propped right and the WOT RPM 5600 . If you go to Mercury marine website they have a great "choose a prop" test. You will need to...
Agree but I don't want to buy 2 or 3 $400 props to get there! I just want the Optimax to run up to it's sweet spot in performance. With the 15 P prop I couldn't get it to 5,000 RPM. Would like to see it around the 5,600 the manufacturer's recommend for this motor.
Put on the new prop a Black Max 16" x 13 P. Went from the 16 x 15P hoping I could get the max RPM up around 5500 to 5600. With the 15 P I could only get the motor up to 4800 RPM. Well I took the boat out for a quick cruise on a little chop with 4 adults and some wind and only seen 5200 RPM. Was...
Yes that is the price range of all the pure synthetics! Sticker shock to say the least. Best price I found was at http://domo-online.com/Outboard-Motor-Oil/mercury-c-3/optimax-c-3_9/25-gallon-case-mercury-optimax-oil-2399-gallon-p-13.html. After shipping the 2 2.5 gallon jugs average about...
I have no intention on running any lower quality oil! I also believe if you skimp on oil you will pay later. Think I'm sticking with the Mercury Optimax full synthetic and that way it's Mercury oil throughout the warranty!
