Took our new to us boat out today and WOT was running 7000 rpm’s and about 16 mph. Are the rpm’s too high? At the end of the day we also got a warning with the motor. Not sure what is going on with that. Also need prop recommendations. Thanks!

I have a "suggested " prop chart that Bennington provides to dealers . An 18 ft with a 60 hp, there are 2 sizes listed ,a 13.8 X 11 and a 12 X 10.5 .

As Jack mentioned, absolutely under propped. By running a larger (probably pitch) prop you will bring down the RPM’s at WOT. You want to get to the upper end of your rpm range at WOT on a light load. Goal would be 1/2 tank or less of fuel, only 1-2 people, calm water. Run it at WOT and ideally run about 5800-6000 rpms in that scenario. That’s where you want to be with a prop. At 1000 rpm’s over motor rev limit is a lot, and nott good.

Running above rev limit range is NOT good on that motor. You mention “new to you”. Pre-owned purchase? Did the previous owner run the boat with that prop? If so, that would raise some BIG concerns for me if that motor has been under propped and run above rev limit for 3-4 years. Yike! o_O

What prop size and make is on it now? Ken at Propgods has served MANY members very well. Super knowledgeable. Within the limits of the boat you have, performance should improve a bit with the right prop. More importantly, the risk of damaging, or continuation to damage, that motor will be mitigated.
