Hello everyone! I washed my toons with NAPA aluminum cleaner and started to polish them with a DA polisher but I havent done the back of the port toon or the center toon by the motor. Does anyone know if the aluminum cleaner will hurt the fishfinder transducer or the motor? I would be very careful by both but I wasnt sure if I should try to cover both with a tarp or painters plastic before I wash those areas. Thanks in advance for any input!

I don't think it'll bother the transducer but cover the motor or anything you don't want the acid to get on.

And how is the Napa Aluminiun Cleaner working for you?

FYI on the transducer.  6 years ago, the bolt that allows angle adjustment was rusting.  I sprayed it with a penetrating oil.  The next weekend I went to use the boat and the transducer is hanging by the cable.  The oil softened the plastic to goo and the bracket was in 2 pieces.

Thanks gents. The Napa cleaner worked excellent, everything on the toons just melted off. I just finished polishing them up and they turned out great.

Wow, beautiful work!

Very nice!

Between cleaning and polishing it was about 6 hours with my brother and I taking turns.

Looking very good ! Now Sharkhide them to keep them looking that good. Nice job!

Nice! 6 hours is all???

What did you use for metal polish?

Nice work, looks good. 6 hours on a 24 footer is fast, I had that into just one tube both times I have done it but some metal polishes may work faster than Mothers which I used.

Yep, 6 hours is all but this was nonstop work. We didn't take any breaks. I used the White Diamond Metal Polish from Advance Auto that Bamaman suggested. It really worked great, the only problem is I dripped a little on the trailer and when I wiped it off it took the clearcoat off which isn't a big deal.

Harsh stuff then, glad I used Mothers, no damage from slopping this around, had I used that I wouldn't have had paint left on anything within 3 feet of the tubes.

Even though Bamaman thinks its crap according to a post he made in another thread it produced the same final result "with a bit more work" which is all that counts. :p
