My boat is in storage, and I won't have access to it for another six weeks. I am upgrading our sound system, and the installer would like to know what he's getting into. I picked up the small Sony marine amp to improve the sound/bass quality. But the more I start to ponder, I'd like to do this right the first time.
I understand the concept of lots of power + mediocre speakers = better, but not great sound. I know unless I add a subwoofer, I'm not going to get the thump I like. Yet at the same time, I can't imagine driving a boat with a sub in the helm rattling my teeth till they hurt.
If I was a passenger, I'm not sure I'd like to be sitting on top of the sub either. I have an RCW closed stern. I'm not looking for Carnegie Hall or a rock concert scenario. Would upgrading just the stock speakers get me to where I want to go (thinking the bass will be a bit better? Or would I be better off getting the sub and leaving the stock speakers alone? And then where do I mount the sub? Please don't tell me from behind .
Thanks for your comments.
