This is in relation to the "Cleaning side panels" started by Juniors Jerky last week. Attached are pics of "Big Kahuna" and the side panels of the boat. Keep in mind that we just went on the boat on Wednesday the 20th of June and these pics were taken today Sunday the 24th when we went out again. The side panels were cleaned and spotless on Wednesday. We had thunderstorms on Wednesday night and showers on Friday. The playpen cover was cleaned with soap and water about 2 weeks ago and treated at the beginning of the season w/the 303 fabric guard. Every time it rains this is the condition of the side panels when we return to the lake. It's killin me..............

I just bought a 2004 2275LX from a guy and it had those black streaks all over it just like yours. He said they wouldn't come out and that he had tried everything. My neighbor is a ZEP chemical salesman and he brought some products over to try. RV bright black streak remover took them off almost instantly. Are you able to remove them or are you just wondering how to stop them?

Thanks Klaus for the reply.................

I can remove them. I use LA's Totally Awesome and have also used the black streak remover from Walmart. I just wanted to show forum members what I go through every time it rains. It's a combination of acid rain and the crap that's on my cover that runs down the side of the panels. I keep the cover as clean as I can and treated it with 303 fabric care at the beginning of the season but I still get this. We're going to the lake today and we had a pretty bad storm last night as a result of 100 degree weather yesterday so I can imagine what it looks like....................

Just to add another datapoint, I have a 2002 2275RL and have yet to experience the black streaks. I use the oem cover (mine is green) and just applied 303 fabric guard last Wednesday. Shame on me, I did not clean the cover first. The 5 week old new to me boat has been in several rains already, and a couple torrential downpours, at least one with 50 MPH winds and 3/8" hail. The boat is docked in Central Wisconsin.

Do all of the other boats around you have the black streaks as well?

There are some pontoon boats and regular boats in the storage yard where I keep my boat that have black streaks worse than mine and they never clean them! I also notice alot of boats that don't use covers and the seats are dirty and full of mildew. Don't understand why someone would make this type of investment and not even attempt to take care of it...............

Different residue, but still annoying. I use "303" cleaner on my vinyl seats. Problem with bug "crap". 99% of the time "303" works great, however I have had two spots of "black bug crap" turn orange. All the "303" and scrubbing won't remove it. Did it transform into something else ? Any suggestions fellow boaters ? Thanks Gerry

I haven't had any black streaks yet. Not sure if it's because my play pen cover is maroon or should I say merlot and my side panels are merlot as well. Just water spots from rain. I've protected my cover with 303 and used meguires wax on the panels.

Hey Todd..............

I'm thinking that your boat is still to new for black streaks and you've been protecting it w/303 from the start. My cover is also maroon/wine and it's a bit faded from 8 years in the sun. This is my 5th season with it and don't think the previous owner treated the cover at all. I also use Meguires cleaner wax on the panels. That's why it's easy to remove the black streaks. I've got so many coats of wax on the panels it's not funny. The problem is that I keep getting the streaks and I have to clean it off every time I go down to the lake. It's getting old..................

Big K

good point. I guess we'll see how time takes its toll on my cover. I keep it in indoor storage over the winter, so it only sees the elements from April / may to September early October

Same here. We keep it in undercover storage from October to April. The rest of the time I catch hell w/the black streaks. HA!
