Since the dealer-supplied navy anchor did not do its job very well on windy days (we have an all-sand lake bottom) I followed nearly everyone's recommendations on this page and on all the Facebook pages and bought a box anchor. I bought the large one (27 pounds) for about $200 for my 20' dual log SLG. This thing was a beast to carry, set up, lower and lift up in the boat. Even worse if there was some stubborn sand that wouldn't rinse off. My 5'3" 114 lb. wife complained constantly about straining to "do the anchor" and hurting her foot, hand, and the boat. Yet, the anchor worked amazingly well. There was no need to set it; it just held... in any wind... like we were tied to a piling. But, I obviously overbought; waaay too big of an anchor for my boat. It had to go. I sold it to a guy on Facebook for $150. It cost $106 to pack and ship. $200 + $106 = $306 spent on the anchor. Was paid $150. Lost $156 on my mistake. Rather than buy a smaller box anchor and wait for internet delivery, I popped into my marina store and bought a $26 danforth anchor that weighed about eight pounds. HOLDS LIKE A CHAMP. No dragging on my sandy bottom lake. Easy to set. Ridiculously lightweight. Lesson learned.
