Just bought a new to me 2001 Bennington 2575 fs and the front carpet is trashed.Does anyone know where I can buy this carpet to match does Bennington sell the carpet.

Also does anyone have any idea what it would cost to replace all the carpet in the boat.the seats are perfect, just the carpet has a lot of mildew on it

Also what can I use to remove the mildew the prior owner says it always comes back on the rugs

Jimbo, if the carpet is in good shape other than the mildew I would certainly try taking care of that before replacing.  I have not had any experience with mildew but it had brought up on the forum before.  Try using the search engine and I am sure others with experience will chip in

Jimbo get a spray bottle (Old windex bottle etc) ....and put an ounce of bleach mixed w/clean water and spray over the mildew. Let it sit on the mildew and it will disappear. If it's trashed like you say.......spray it again! You'll get rid of it. There are members on here that have used products specifically for mildew removal but this is what I have successfully done for years.

I also use a product Called Redi shine bathroom cleaner. $.98 at Walmart. Works perfectly on carpets and seats in the boat for mildew removal......

My carpet got pretty funky at the end of this last season.  I used a garden sprayer with about 20% bleach (and water) and sprayed the carpet until it was SOAKED, then walked around on it to mush everything together for 10-15 minutes, then shopvac-ed everything up and repeated 3-4 times.  No damage to the carpet.  Smell went away, but this was towards the end of the season, so we'll see how quick it comes back this spring.

Replacing the carpet would require removing everything above deck since it is "wall to wall".  All the seats would have to come up.  Helm too.  That would be a major undertaking. You'd have to remove any underskinning below deck to get to all the bolts that hold the furniture down.

Try cleaning it up first.  Get more aggressive if it doesn't work the first time.   You can always tear the boat apart, but that would be a last resort.  I'm a DIY enthusiast, but I'd probably sell my boat before I'd tear the carpet out.

Jimbo,

I would be looking at the cause of mildew as well, here my dealer wouldn't winterize or shrink wrap

the pontoon if anything was wet. Was the boat left uncovered routinely, was it ever winterized properly with shrink wrap ?

If you replace the existing carpeting the cost will be significant and you want to be sure it doesn't happen again.

Due to many reasons my carpet is never wet so mildew hopefully will never occur but there are never any guarantees.

I am surprised how many people leave their boat uncovered year round , I am curious if the original owner maintained boat

in the proper manner.

We had bad mildew on the tops of our seats and the helm on old crest pontoon.   The cheapest and easiest thing I found to clean it up was "awesome" cleaner available at dollar general or dollar tree (even walmart has it) for a few bucks a half gallon.  You can get a smaller spray bottle for around a buck just to try.  You can use it full strength or dilute it for a test spot to see how well it's going to work.  I diluted it down a bit and it would clean the seats with little scrubbing and the helm (that was white) cleaned up nice as well.
