I would acid wash. I've never used either, but hear a lot of people get good results with The Works toilet bowl cleaner from Wal-mart or some NAPA auto parts metal brightener.
Watch the Alumatron products youtube videos where they use a linear air sander (in line, not orbital) with a pad and metal polish and then when polished they clean well and apply a clear coating that is supposed to last 5 years. Also the "Toon sauce" cleaners are supposed to work if you start from bottom on up and scrub some to avoid streaks. Also acids are used but wear old clothes and eye and lung and skin protection.
