Does this sound about right?

As posted in the pontoon forum, I upgraded my 2 25" toon 2002 2275 RL with a 2006 Mercury 115HP EFI 4 stroke, I did a few runs and consistently see speeds of 22 - 23 MPH with double biminis booted and in upright position, 2/3 tank of gas, and two adults on board. RPMs read 5200 - 5300. Prop looks like a brand new aluminum Mercury H 14 x 13P.

Sound about right? Not having an owner's manual, I'm not sure if I should be seeing higher speed/RPMs.

*edit - chased down the prop model # - Black Max 13 Pitch (14x13) RH Alum 3 BL Mercury Propeller 77340A45

*edit again - with 5 adults on board still hit 21 - 22 MPH at about 5100 RPMs, this with the double bimini deployed. Starting to think I may need some throttle cable adjustments, in other words it might not be the prop holding down the RPMs if that much additional load and wind resistance has such little impact on MPH.

Make sure your throttle plate is opening all the way up. I would expect you to get at least 5800rpm with a light load on the boat..

Mine came with a 14x13 Black Max "extra cup". It is made just for pontoons. Not sure of the model number....

Here's some info from the manual for the 2001 Mercury 115HP EFI 4 stroke:

Diameter, Pitch, # Blades, Material, Weight, Length, mph, Prop P/N

14, 13, 3, Alum, 4200-6400, 22-24, 20-28, 48-77340A45

14, 12, 3, Steel, 5000+, pontoon, 17-24, 48-17312A45

Wide Open Throttle RPM : 5000-6000

115 hp (85.8 Kw) @ 5500 rpm

Not that I take this information as gospel, but it is interesting that Merc recommends a 14x12P SS prop for pontoons, and yet my GPS speeds using the 14x13p Aluminum prop are close to the top end of the range listed for the Mercury Vengance SS 14x12p prop.

I moved to a 14 x 11 prop. On the plus side I now see RPMs up at 5900. On the minus side, GPS speed didn't increase much, I now see 23 - 24 MPH pretty consistently, so maybe 1 MPH. This with 1 passenger, bimini's stowed upright, and a little over half a tank of gas.
