Gas and Trim gauge problem

Hello, I am a new Club member with an issue on my 2016 Bennington GS22.
The gas and trim gauge have stopped working and I found an old post on this
problem that suggests it is a ground wire issue. I have not been able to find
a wiring diagram, the plug to the gauge cluster has black , blue, pink, purple
and white/brown wires. I assume the black is ground but want to make sure.
If it is a ground issue, where would I attach a ground jumper from the harness.
I have pulled the fuel float and it is not sticking.
Any help on this would be appreciated Thank you!

On my S model that had a single combination fuel, trim and volt gauge the color code is as follows. Black is ground thru-out boat. Pink is gas tank. Purple is power to gauge. White/brown is trim. I do not have a blue wire on my specific boat. I would think that your volt gauge would also be inoperable if you had a bad ground.

Thanks for your help DVW, and it is odd that the volt gauge works. With the wires you identified
I can at least check voltage to the gauges. Hopefully someone else on the forum will have ideas too.

Hello, I'm back with more questions regarding fuel and trim gauge not working
on my 2016 Bennington GS22. I did some testing and found with the ignition switch
on there is 12 volts to the purple gauge wire and the unidentified blue wire.
The pink fuel gauge wire and white/brown trim gauge have no voltage, even when
the trim switch is pushed on. I connected a jumper off the black ground wire to
the battery ground, with no results.
Idea's anyone???? A wiring schematic would be great if anyone has it.
Thanks much!

I can tell you what little I know about marine electrical in your problem area. Both the fuel and trim sensors appear to be variable resistors. I would be using your ohm meter to test the sensors and connection to the gauges. If they indeed are variable resistors then the gauges are basically ohm meters. I do not know how they work but maybe someone here can give us some insight and how they can be tested. If not, then use the process of elimination.

Thanks again DVW, it's looking like I'm going to be eliminated with my skill level!
It may be time to call the dealer

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you have warranty coverage until 2026? If you do, have the dealer take care of it. ⚓

2016’s had a 7 year warranty. 2017 had a 7 year, and you could get an additional 3 years (for 10 total) during a promotion window after purchase if you joined this forum. 2018+ have had the 10 year warranty out of the gate at purchase. They’re past their warranty expiration.

I have 2022 SXSR and similar issue. Voltage ok, the trim & fuel not working. Fuel sensor changes ohms when sliding up/down. Took to dealer, need new gage on warranty even tho 2yrs old. Been waiting over 2 months and still no gage available from Bennington to replace it. On back order I understand!!
