I want to comment on some recent upkeep to my Bennington 22SSLX. The boat is a 2014 model and starting to show a little age. I have a few comments regarding things I recently learned and put into practice.
First thing is maintaining the seats. I’ve been using Armorall since I got the boat in 2019. I keep it on a lift on the dock so it gets a little dusty and gets way too much spider and bird goop on it. This said, I clean it every couple of weeks and then condition it. Still the seats dry out. I recently had some work done on the seats. It had some pet claw marks when I bought it. Thought I’d have too live with these forever but found a cure. I’ll come back to this. I was told by an upholsterer that the Armorall had silicone in it and was bad for the seats. Had never heard this before. Have now switched to Marine 31. This product is doing great, using the cleaner/conditioner followed by their protectorant. It’s proving to be a superior product.
Regarding the claw marks, I found an outfit called Fibrenew. What a miracle they performed! Had five bad spots, the guy sanded, cleaned, spread liquid vinyl, dried, repeated until perfect, color matched paint and painted with an airbrush. I can’t find the repairs now. The claw marks are gone and the seats look great. I highly recommend their service. I had one bad spot he couldn’t tackle, but he recommended a local upholsterer who repaired the removable seat back in three days. Fibrenew was $475, including his 130mile each way travel. The seat repair was $200 and the boat seats are back to looking brand new. Couldn’t be happier.
