KMC10 question (on Fastbacks and Swingbacks)

We are about to order a 2550 RSR Fastback.  My only confusion is over the KMC10.

When you get the Fastback, the rear speakers and the KMC10 become standard.  However, it appears the KMC10 Media Console does not replace the standard "round" in-dash Kicker Console.  Instead, they mount the KMC10 console inside the helm behind the door.

That seems a bit pointless.  Why install another media console within 10 inches of the other one and put it in a hard-to-get-at location.

Then I started to wonder.  Does the in-dash console control only the 4 "inside" speakers while the KMC-10 controls only the rear (water) facing speakers?

Does anyone know the answer to this?  Would be much appreciated.  We are assuming all 6 speakers can play the same source...but now I'm not sure that's the case.

Well, now I think I've convinced myself of this:

The KMC-10 is an upgrade from the KMC-1, and when you do that, the KMC-1 in the dash is replaced with the KMC-15 remote and all speakers are controlled from the single system.

So, if all that's true, would it be possible to control the rear speaker volume independently?

Yep.  You could put a volume control knob inline between the speakers and the deck (or amp).  Mount the knob somewhere accessible and you could easily just control the rear speakers independent of the other in-boat speakers.
