I am looking for a lightweight boat cover for my parent's Bennington. This weekend, they mentioned their current cover is too heavy to put on and take off daily. As they are in their 70s and 80s, I am trying to make their life essier and I appreciate any good feedback.

Is there a lighter boat cover for daily use? Or, one that's easier on and off?

They love their boat and I am impressed as well.

Apologies in advance if this belongs in a different forum or if it has even been answered already.

*Any other cool things I can buy for them/their boat? - I live several states away from them and will rarely if ever get to enjoy their Benni with them, but if I can send them some cool upgrades or accessories, I will - thank you to anyone who can share advice.- (Their not new owners (10+yrs) but they don't search the internet for new accessories)

There is another option, individual covers for seats and the helm . The floor would not be covered, but easy on and off. Several other members on the forum use them . You would most likely have to have them custom made at a local canvas shop .

From what you described, I would lean into Jack’s advise above. Sacrifice floor protection for something manageable by them to protect furniture.

Additional suggestion if in anyone’s budget: Can they put in a covered lift, or simply an independent canopy system (they do make them, but pricey)? A canopy cover (especially if part of a lift system) with furniture protection would be a lot easier for them a provide pretty much total protection.

One more suggestion: They make canopy side wall netting/shades you can secure to a canopy system to provide side shade and protection. An older neighbors 3 cottages down from us added this to their lift and canopy last year to simply not cover their boat at all. They just pop it up on their lift under their canopy with the side shade covers. If you want, message me and I can take a picture of their set up in a few days when we are back to our lake house so you can see what I am talking about.

Mooring Cover Option: Finally, the new (2024) OEM mooring covers from Bennington are made from a new product called Ecolast. It is replacing the Surelast material that was used for 8+ years. We had our older cover (Surelast) replaced under warranty last month. The new cover is the new Ecolast material. It is much lighter. Both my wife and I instantly noticed a difference.

However, a trade off when going to a newer cover is it’s a tighter fit with new material vs stretched out older material. So clips and snaps require you to really pull HARD to get them secured. My wife cannot get a couple of our snaps herself. So the cover itself is lighter, but putting it on is probably going to be a bit harder for the next couple years until the material loses up a bit with use. I don’t think this is the ideal option based on what you shared.
