I have the 2254Sti... triple toon with Yamaha 150hp and Lifting Strakes on Center toon and wave shield..... When I 1st got it I was doing 39.4 Mph....then it seemed to go to 38.5 mph..... I sent the boat in for engine service ( Oil change, filters etc...) Also had them Replace the Prop... and send my prop out to get repaired... I had a stainless steel 14.5x15....but it got knicked up so its being fixed and sent back,,,, in the mean time I bought and alluminum prop,,,but he said the smallest size is 15 x15....I ran it and it is hitting 5900 RPM.... but ONLY 31-32 MPH.... can Alluminum to SS prop make you really lose 4-5 MPH?????

I just power washed the toons so they are Clean .... I am getting the other prop back tomorrow so I will put that back on,,,,Does the Size make that much of a difference or is it the SS prop that much better?

Usually on a pontoon you want a large diameter prop. When we got our boat it had a 15.25 x 15p solas aluminum on it and would surge at about 35-4000rpms. When I finally came across the prop that worked the best, 15 x 15p Enertia I had no more surging and the best mph. The aluminum flexes and the SS doesn't.

Don't stress too much Jason, it's not only the size, pitch, cup, and rake also make a difference.

2 numerically the same props from different manufacturers will perform differently.

I think you will be relieved when you get your old prop back on there ;)

But would it be a 5 MPH difference Alluminum to SS???

G&B hit it on the head. There are many factors that are different on same size props. I prefer the Merc props but everyone has their own preference. Prop selection is "educated guesswork". B)

Or outrun the nasty storms that pop up. That's usually when I drop the throttle over 4k :)

Ain't that the truth!! I've been testing props for years. No truer words can be said than those right there! The only characteristic that shows up as consistancy is inconsistancy. :D

I just sent my best prop (major mistake) out to my prop man for a bit a performance tweeking. I lost 2 mph!!! I may never get that speed back. But...... it's smooth as silk, so I did get something positive from it.
