The marina called and saidnwhile doing lower unit gear lube they noticed milky color and said seal is broken. 2017 Yamaha 50hp with only 300 hrs. Hasn't been used much the last 2 years. Is this normal to have a seal go bad already? They did not tell me if they found any debris or fishing line around prop area.

Not normal if just regular wear and tear. Had any work or maintenance done lately (prior to this latest round)? Any engine or prop impacts?

Maybe have the dealer pressure test the LU and spray the seals to find which has failed.

Welcome to the forum Tammy. When was the last time the lower unit lube was changed? Do you keep your outdrive in the water? Even if it hasn't been used much that seal is 5 yrs old and it does have 300 hrs on it. Just change it and the lube!

No work done other than the annual winterization and spring startup. I am going to ask the Marina about the pressure test tomorrow. Thanks! Stay tuned
