About to pull the trigger and buy a 2016 21 SLX.

Was at my local dealer and he was very helpful. But told me it was up to me on the motor he could give me anything I wanted.

Trying to make the decision on the motor. Here is where feed back would help.

Yamaha vs Mercury

And 4 stroke 70 HP vs 90 HP. About a $1000 differents. Trying to justify that.

Mostly for inland lake use in central New York.

age old question

two stroke or four? Assume 4.

with four adults on the boat, the person on the tube won't get an inspired ride with a 70. You'll want 90. My 70 Yamaha 2 stroke will move my 207L at about 16mph with a single adult tuber.

If all you want to do is a wine and cheese cruise from Penn Yan to Hammondsport, go with 70 and put the money into Bully Hill

FWIW my wife has told me I need a more powerful boat. Who am I to argue.

90 and Yamaha. IMHO

Of those two, Yamaha 90 would be my choice but bigger is better, like Yamaha 150 minimum if you get tritoon option.

I rented twin toon Benningtons with 90 hp and 115 hp prior to buying and if you are planing to do tubing, skiing or other water sports then you need 150 hp minimum in my opinion.

You are going to have this boat for a long time. Justify the 90 Yamaha by dividing it by the next 10 years.  You wont regret it

I would go with the biggest you can afford, No substitute for power!

90hp yamaha 4 stroke great engine and very good bandgfor you buck. The warranty is great. I have had the 70 and 90 yamaha and they performed great. I have also owned mercury and evinrude and I prefer the yamaha. Get great milage an good performance on my 22' Bennington SSLX. Tubing is good but for good skiing will need a little more horsepower. Good all around performance for my needs.
