Motor trims up by itself

My motor went up and down by itself at random the other day.  It would stop when I hit either trim button, and stop there for a couple minutes, but then it would take off, either up or down, and the trim motor wouldn't stop when it bottomed or topped out until I touched one of the buttons.  Anyone experience anything like this?  It did it 8-10 times, then didn't do it again for 24 hours (which is when I pulled the battery for winter).

I can just imagine the damage if this happened while it was in the shed.  Tight clearances.  Motor's only about 6 inches from the back metal wall.

Must be a Merc thing . But my motor does this in the morning. I've heard it is normal.

Sounds like a short somewhere. Something is telling the pump to engage, either externally at the switch or inside the unit. Should be under warranty though is my guess.

Maybe a bad relay but more likely the trim switch has water in it. Check the switch on the motor as well.
