Hi all,

We need a fishing / landing net recommendation!

Gearing up for the season and need a new net with easier reach. It's about 60" from the railing to the water and found some EGO S2 SLIDER nets (handles slide from 29" to 60" OR 48" to 108"). There's PVC coated, Rubber mesh, Nylon mesh, etc:  http://www.egos2slider.com/

Anyone ever use these newer style nets?

Recommend a length? (the further extended the less weight it'll hold)

Any other brand/style?

We keep one on the boat to pick up trash floating in the water. It is the shorter one so it fits under the stern lounger. It is the nylon mesh and we have had it since our last pontoon. So it has lasted well.
 
Wanted to follow up now that we chose a net. (Big difference owning a high sitting pontoon vs a lower sitting fishing boat):

We decided to purchase (well, free with Cabella's points!) the EGO S2 Slider Reach Deep Rubber Mesh Net, 24" deep w/hoop 19" x 21", and love it! (didn't need the XL 22 x 23" hoop). The net and handle unscrew for easy storage (there's also attachment options, boat hooks, etc).

Originally thought we'd get the 29-60" handle (railing is 60" off water) but the 48-108" reach (locking increments in between) turned out a good choice being higher up on a pontoon, less bending over the rail and it's an easy "slide" action to extend. Besides landing fish easier, if you use those Lindy type buoy markers the 108" reach is nice for retrieval and/or garbage like dasalmon posted! It's definitely heavier than a basic net but we go for those elusive walleye so it's not like we need it every 2 seconds! Never owned a rubber net before but it is easier on the fish and to get hooks out of!

Hope this review helps those who may be on the hunt for a good pontoon net for fishing : )

(PS: actually cost less buying the handle and net separately!)

I have a different rubber mesh net and I love it. I think it is a lot easier on the fish and hooks never get caught in it. I always had hooks get caught in the nylon nets and I went to the rubber mesh probably 10 years ago and it has held up great.
 
That post just cost me.  Just ordered a new net for the boat.
 
That is a nice net though!
 
Rubber mesh all the way. We had a nylon fail and hooks were always getting stuck. I got mine from bass pro and it is a rubber coated mesh but hasn't missed a beat. Worked to the two pike and bass last night!
