New Boat - Stainless Ladder Is Stuck?

Boat is a 2015 2275 GCW. We have the stainless steel four step telescoping ladder and it won't move, it's stuck.  I can see where the bottom rung needs to be moved up and over the stationary hooks on each side to get it to extend but I'm unable to move it at all.

Am I doing something wrong, what's the fix for this?

Thanks.

Can you post a pic? Hard to tell what's wrong from your description.

Call your dealer .

It is likely just stiff. My wife cant get ours down by herself. Try pushing in then lift.

Pull harder!

I have to "rock" mine gently back and fourth to free it up enough to get it to slide.

Might be a problem........My new Benny drifted backwards slightly when I was anchored at a sand bar.Didn't realize that the bottom rung was in the sand and it caused the top rung to crimp at the top where it slides under the stern.

Couldn't be fixed and had to order a new ladder (yikes)

Check under the top rung....hope it's not crimped.......If not it should be just a maintainence issue.

Is it possible that there is some sort of shipping retainer or wire tie etc. that the factory puts on the ladder that is supposed to be removed when it gets to the dealer? It's still jammed and won't move at all?

Thanks for that comment.  Next time I'm at the beach, I might tie the bottom two rungs together to keep the bottom of the ladder from hitting the sand.  I'll have to check into this.  Good post.

Probably not.  Since there's a rubber strap that holds the ladder in place quite well, I can't see any reason they would add yet another retainer for shipping, but I could be wrong.

Aha, where is the rubber strap located, so far I can't see it?

Thanks.

I don't have a rubber strap on mine, but maybe they are all different?

You can't miss it.  It wraps around the ladder rungs when the ladder is in the up and stowed position.  The strap is so obvious, I'm sure you are just missing the strap.  Which you don't need at the moment since your ladder is stuck.

But, you might want to get one before you fix your ladder, or you'll be back posting here with another problem!  How to keep the ladder up!  Ha ha ha.

Our 2014 has a rubber strap around the last rung of the ladder (you can't miss it) but it's only a 3 rung ladder.  The 4 rung was an option in 2014 but we couldn't upgrade from our 3 as the mount was wider.  The ladder looked to be the same width but the height may be have been more as the ladder rungs are a bit different from ours height wise.   We noticed the 4 rung ladders are on almost all of the new 2015 models and don't have the rubber strap any more.  Now they use sort of a lift and lock mechanism on the ladder.  You have to push in a bit and then lift the ladder catches (pins) over the retainers on each side of the rungs to slide it out of the platform under the deck where it stores.  If you have that style of catch you won't find a rubber strap.

My problem is that I can't push the ladder in far enough to be able to lift it and clear the retainer pin/hooks you refer too. I've tried tapping it on the corners with a rubber hammer without success. Now I'm wondering if the dealers fork lift maybe pushed in the plate/tray that the ladder rests in?

Mine is the 3-rung with the rubber strap.  I didn't know the 4-rung version had a better way to keep the ladder up. That is a good change since I'm on my second strap now.  Tooncrazy probably disagrees.  Maybe I should stock up on straps if they are no longer making the 3-rung version...  I don't think the 4-rung ladder was an option on my 2012.

And, hopefully my 3-rung is shorter and does not reach the sand at the beach either...  But I'll check and see how far down it goes.

Sorry about your issues Tooncrazy.  Maybe you should unbolt the entire ladder assembly.  Maybe you will find what's wrong by doing that.  Maybe something is wedged/trapped way in the back keeping you from pushing it in?  Use a small flashlight and a small dental mirror and see if you can see anything wedged back in there...

  • I have a similar 3 rung stainless ladder on my 2014. they are spring loaded and you need to give it a good push towards the boat to release it. it took me a few shots but I kneeled down between the hand rails and was able to pull it towards me and up to get it released. once you get it, it'll get easier. Just ask my wife! :D  Last boat had a rubber strap, must of bought 6 replacements, I like this set-up much better

My 2011 is the 3 step with the rubber strap. I too am on my 2nd strap.  However, the aftermarket one I bought was a much thicker rubber then the factory model.  (that surprised me)

I was looking at a picture I have, my 2nd step is level with the bottom of my pontoon so the 3rd step and bottom of ladder  is only about about 12" under my pontoon.  That means I would have to be in less then 24" of water before the ladder would hit the bottom of the lake
