I have a Yamaha 60 hp. Idling at the lake it died. It start up run for a few seconds and die. I changed the water separator filter and the engine filter. Could not get the bulb to pump up. Pulled the supply line from the tank to the water separator filter no fuel coming out. The fuel tank is full. Could it something in the tank or the fuel pump

I assume your 60hp is a 4 stroke motor? Not sure what model or year you have? If the fuel line is above the tank which it probably is, you might not get fuel coming out the line from the tank to the water separator.

I don 't believe any outboard powered boats have a fuel pump in the tank but they use a vacuum powered type fuel pump on the engine (see image below which is a 60hp Yamaha motor). Typically in the tank is just a sending unit for fuel gauge readings. Some of the bigger motors may have a electric pump for higher flow rates, but its usually outside the tank.

You could have a bad primer bulb where the 1 way check valve is bad is or a bad O ring and not allowing fuel to flow to the engine mounted pump and inducing air into the system. OR you could have a clogged fuel tank vent which will not allow the pressurization of the fuel system.

Although its not typically talked about, a primer bulb needs to be in the vertical position to prime it correctly. I had many times on many boats where the bulb was horizontal to the motor and fuel tank and it would not get hard after multiple times squeezing it. Happened to be the luck of the draw where it wouldn't force the flow of fuel in the system and just remained flat. Rotated it to the vertical position, and it got hard after 2 squeezes.

Do you have a fuel line connection at the side or front of the motor that looks like the image below? If so, grab a 5 or 6 gallon plastic portable tank with a new or known good fuel line and primer bulb and run it to see if the motor runs normally? If so, then you have a bad primer bulb or clogged tank vent.

On a rare instance if your running fuel with10% Ethanol, your fuel line from the tank to fuel water separator could have broken down and clogged itself with debris from the rubber and plastic. But that is rare and I've never run Rec Fuel with 0% Ethanol in any boat in the last 40 years. Rec fuel wasn't even a thing until a few years ago when they started to introduce E15 fuel (15% Ethanol which I agree is bad). I would never run E15 in a boat that sets 6 months in storage. That's asking for trouble.

If not, the most likely your vacuum driven fuel pump on the engine could be bad.

Using the video below, symmetrically check for fuel at each joint. Make sure you have fuel in your separator, then at the fuel filter, then at the bowl drain and squeeze the bulb to make sure the pressure is adequate.

Hope this helps
