Problems with brand new tritoon

Took delivery about six weeks ago of a new 22 foot tritoon we ordered.  When we got to dealership, we were told the seats and railings would have to be replaced due to transportation issues. They took us out on the lake that day and we have made one short trip on a nearby lake since purchase.  We have had some time to think about it and are now concerned that pulling up all those seats and the railings will cause issues down the road.  Dealership is entertaining idea of just ordering us another boat.  Hopefully, they are serious if need arises.

We don't want to be unreasonable but at the same time, we don't want a boat with extra holes in the floor or screw holes that have been wallowed out and we discover we have a rattle trap of a boat a year or two down the road...  Also concerned about possible extra holes in the vinal floor that end up causing leaks and rot down the road.  We paid over $43,000 for this boat which is a really big investment for us and are feeling uncomfortable about all of it right now.

We would really appreciate some good advice from some long time boat owners as to what they would request from their dealer in this situation.

I totally understand your thoughts. I too would not want a "repaired" boat out of the gate. Chances are it'll be fine but it would always be in the back of my mind.

Would the dealer (or transportation company) pay for a loaner in the mean time?

IMHO....go for the replacement boat.  My brother in-law had damage to his on delivery.....they were going to fix it but he told them he didn't feel comfortable so they got him a new boat.

add: damaged during shipping... what else (unseen) was damaged?

I am with you and Rockie69. You bought and paid for a new boat, not a repaired one. I don't think that is unreasonable on your part.

Well, you accepted delivery 6 weeks ago. That will complicate matters, but it sounds like your dealer is leaning in your direction.

Keep us posted.

Welcome to the forum Lorraine! Congratulations on your new boat..........and I'll congratulate you again when you get your "other" new boat!

I can relate to your frustrations. We had a steering leak on our 2014 that ruined the carpet. The entire boat had to be stripped down to the pontoons so new wood could go down, then new flooring and so on. It was a big job but the factory did an awesome job and when we got it back it was literally brand new. My wife and I are very particular and they really stepped up and made it right. I wouldn't rule out having yours fixed, you could probably get some upgrades out of the deal as well. PM me if you have any additional questions.

Andy's comments are why we are all comfortable buying Bennington.  It's a rare company that simply makes stuff right when stuff goes wrong.  I will NEVER buy another brand.

But, go back and read your own post.  Pretend you didn't write it, and never saw it before.  It is full of concerns.  In my mind, you've answered your own questions.  You want a new boat, and are looking for confirmation that you are not being unreasonable.  Well...

YOU ARE NOT BEING UNREASONABLE!

You paid for a new boat, you should get a NEW boat.  Don't worry about the dealer and the damage, that is no doubt covered by shipping insurance.  If your dealer is hinting at getting you a new boat, I would take that to mean that's what he would do if he was in your shoes.  My guess is he wants you to be happy.  If only all dealers could be like that!

Take him up on the offer and get a new boat.  Just my 2 cents.
