In case some of you have noticed what seems to be a little far-fetched GPS readings, note that the government introduced something called "Selective Availability" in 2000.  In 2000, they allowed the public to have GPS accuracy that only the military had prior to that time, but they can introduce the error factor back into the system at anytime.  It's for national defense reasons.  Even though there may not be an imminent defense need, I think they test the system or randomly introduce the error on an occasional basis. 

I think someone posted here recently that they had a speed reading that was way off for their boat.  This could be why.
