Should I get a new prop?

I have a SL20 with 25" toons and a Mercury Command Thrust  90hp I get about 27mph at about 5400/5500 rpms with the wife and I. I was wondering if any one has an opinion on whether or not I should re prop the motor? I'd like to get a little more top end but this is my first boat so I don't' know if I should or is this going to be a waste of money?

thanks everyone

What is the maximum rpm limit for your CT 90? What prop are you currently running to the the rpms you quote? What kind of relationship do you have with your dealer or a local marina or prop shop? Maybe they would let you test drive one or two.

IMHO, 27 is pretty damn good for your boat. Only you can decide if the hassle is worth another mile an hour.

Mercury says 6k its the stock black max I think its a 13 degrees. I was assuming it was only going to gain a mile per hour or so seems like a waste I thought 27 was pretty good. but I figured I'd ask my fellow "fourmers"

a 13 p is probably going to be where you want to stay. If you go any higher with the pitch, your rpm will suffer, causing the motor to labor more. I started with a 15p and only got about 5000 rpm. Changed to 13p 4 blade and got my rpm up to 6000. I'm getting right at 27 - 28 trimmed out to the max, with two people, a 20# dog, and normal cargo.

Get the rpm s closer by going down in pitch. At full throttle your rpms should be as close as possible to 6000. If not...the engine tends to labor harder. If you check the cupping...it may help instead. Right now your doing ok, but can be better. Your speed is fantastic too. Happy tooning ⚓
