storage for camper top

I have a Bennington SSB which is the swing back lounge at the stern. I want to get a camper enclosure made for the boat and wondering if anyone has an enclosure that they store under the SSB. My concern is that when rolled up, the pieces could be too long to lay on the floor there.

I am also considering trading my boat in for one with under floor storage for storing the canvas top pieces. I looked at a boat with an under floor locker and it seemed like the space goes so far to the rear that something could slide way back and be difficult to retrieve. Anyone with experience with either of these scenarios?

Depending where you are boating, the under floor storage can be useless. In KY because of the humidity everything molds if left in the storage. We leave skies in there and that is it.

I have a swingback layout and in floor storage on our center pontoon.

Swingback Thoughts: There is some nice storage space underneath the swingback. But like you probably realize, it’s segmented a little bit and only offers so much room. We find it incredibly handy. However, probably like you, depending on the size of the enclosure or camper top you are talking about, I wonder if it would be enough space for storage.

In Floor Storage Thoughts: It would be possible for things to get out of reach in the in floor storage. Very deep and narrow. We only put longer items that wont move out of reach. Additionally, as mentioned above, that is NOT a water tight compartment. It has a bilge pump for that reason. So you really want things in there that wont get moldy. Like Remediation for example, we keep our skis in there.

I also drop our mooring cover in there for when we are under way, but then it comes out later that day so as to cover the boat (and not remain in there to get moldy). So, it might provide a nice area to drop in longer rolled up sections of some sort of enclosure or camper top, but you wouldn’t want them stored in there beyond going out for the afternoon. I think you’d otherwise be risking them getting soaked, and mildewy/moldy over time.

All of this is speculation on my part. We don’t have any kind of enclosure or camper top. So I guess it really dependents on what you are talking about in terms of size and scale for your boat. Swingback offers less depth of space, but better chances of keeping it somewhat dry. In floor storage offers some depth of space, but it will be a damp area.

You may want to search "enclosure" and see what other members do with theirs. There are a few great write-ups on eclosures, "had a great season" and "enclosure for my 2021" and I'm sure others that may be helpful. Sounds like a fun addition to the toon and good luck!
