I searched on all of the above and haven't found a solid  answer.

ok,  (my engine == 150XB not in water)

I know you use the motor connection to flush the motor without running the engine.

You use a motor muffler,  if you want to run the engine.

my question:

1. proper name: telltale? tell tale?  tell tail? or pee-hole :)

2 Should you get water coming out the tell tale when running the engine with garden hose hooked up to muffs?

Today I didn't get any but I never ran it very long just in case you're supposed to.

I've read many things online, tilt motor up, this, that, use garbage can, yada yada yada...

so what say you.... do you get water coming from the telltale when using muffs and if yes, how long does it take after starting the engine.

Do you use a motor muffler and if so, round? rectangle? dual (water to both sides) and why?

Garden hose full on, half on?,   or ?

thanks,

Royal

add: It works fine in the water after about 10 seconds if that.

Here is my f200 on muffs peeing a little. Not sure on proper name either. Your 150 is essentially the same motor so you should expect to see some as well

Yes you should have water peeing, put the hose full open on muffs, you are correct about not running motor when using flush attachment (garden hose fitting up under cowling). Sometimes it takes a little bit to get a stream going, you want to be very sure you have the muffs positioned correctly, may have to move it a little while running. I've never seen someone tilt the motor, usually because you are running on muffs to do oil change or something so tilting would be bad. I see some say the technical name is overboard indicator, pretty sure not many would have a clue what you're talking about if you said that! Haha, I just call it the pee stream!

Hey Derrick,

If didn't read your whole story, I'd swear I was standing in front of the john getting ready to pee without missing the toilet

Bad thing about Yamaha (and I have one - 250) is you have to tape up the additional water pickup when running the muffs. Kinda pain.

I just read this on another forum, and it seems to explain why you should never run your motor while only connected to the flush port and water hose. This is for anyone that might question why.

"You should not run it from the flush port because it feeds water from 'Above" the impeller. The impeller is designed to pull water from the bottom of the drive into it. With the water coming in above it nothing goes into it. You Will Melt it. The engine won't overheat because the water hose is taking place of the impeller, but once you put it back into the water and the impeller is wiped out guess what? No water to the engine!

There have been many threads on this forum about the water hose and no peeing issue. I think personally a water hose just doesn't have the volume it takes to feed the engine enough water to create enough pressure to make it pee. There is a difference between pressure and volume in Hydraulics. You can have pressure and no volume and volume with no pressure.

Yamaha's seem to require allot of volume to create pressure in the upper portion of the engine."

This should be clearly stated in the owner's manual somewhere.

My Merc 150 fourstroke pees like a horse when using the hose fitting (and with muffs too).  I'm certain my manual says the motor can be run with a hose connected to the garden hose connector.

Look in your manual and let us know what it says.  I'd go by that before anything written on the internet, especially anytime warranty coverage is at stake.  Do you really think a dealer wouldn't laugh if you brought the motor in, and said you didn't do what the manual said, you did what you were told from a message board?  Look it up in the manual.

The hose fitting for our Honda is only to flush while not running. It's in the manual.

Update:  I bought a double sided flush muff (water to both sides) during the summer and just did my annual lower unit/engine oil change. It worked, water came out telltale (peehole), like it should so for me the water to one side muff didn't work but the water to both sides muff did work.
