The difference between driving a boat and a car

Thought you guys might like this...

I'm not sure why they call it “driving” a boat.  There’s virtually nothing about boating that’s like driving a car, other than they both have a steering wheel.  “Driving” a boat is like driving a car on glare ice, where the back wheels steer instead of the front, and the concrete moves all the time.  “Driving” a boat is like driving a car that’s virtually weightless and instead of winds having to blow 40-50 mph before you feel it, a 4-5 mph wind can blow you sideways.  “Driving” a boat is like being in a crowded parking lot where half the other cars are driven by teenagers and there are no lines painted on the ground.  Unlike a boat, a car goes where you steer it.  A boat will not travel the same path forwards and backwards as you shift gears and hold the wheel still because of the gyroscopic effect called prop walk.  “Skidding” a boat is far more descriptive than “driving” a boat.  Docking a boat is like a stunt man skidding a car sideways into a tight spot with parked cars on both sides, only in slow motion.  Bumpers and fenders on boats are actually meant to hit things on a regular basis.  Parking a boat isn’t as easy as moving a shift lever, it means time spent securing dock lines and adjusting spring lines.  Loading a boat onto a trailer is like driving a car up into the bed of a pickup.  Ever been in a parking lot where everyone stops what they’re doing to watch you park?  Welcome to the boat ramp.  The next time someone asks if they can “drive” your boat, or they don’t understand why docking can be stressful at times, try not to laugh too hard.

Good one!

Someone is going stir crazy... Get that man some gardettos asap!

Gardettos are a staple on our boat.  They taste awesome.  They're cheap (in $ per calorie).  By the way, I've yet to run across someone that measures food by cost per calorie, but it makes sense to me.  They go good with beer.  What doesn't.  And they never seem to get stale or go bad.  I bought a 3 pound bag last year.  Never seen a bag that big before, so I had to buy it.  It took me a half summer of boating to eat it all.

What's amazing is that Andy would remember how much I like them.  I'm impressed!

I am going stir crazy though.  Our reservoir is almost 20 feet above normal pool for this time of year.  Temps have been way above normal the last few months too.  Mother nature is mocking me...

The real way to measure the cost of calories is by looking into a mirror. I consider myself able to manage about everything life has thrown at me, other than calories. I looked at myself in a mirror stepping out of the shower this morning, so don't ask me how I know! It's not a pretty picture.

As for your comparison of "driving" cars and boats, I LOVE IT!!!

I remember random things. You and your Gardetto obsession is one of those things!

I've never seen them or heard  of them but they sound awsome.

I do like it.  Great winter time thread kaydano

Did you order them CWag, if so give us a review

OMG Jack, I had forgotten what they were till I clicked your link.  The only way there is a shortage is if they stopped making them 4 years ago.

I ordered 2 cases of 12 8 oz bags  last summer ,I have two bags left .

I just looked @ Amazon ,they are WAY out of line now .

I paid about $22.50 per case ,they are now close to $60.00

Must be a shortage .

An 8 oz bag is a HUGE bag of Gardettos!!!  If you got those for under $2 last summer, that's an incredible deal!  There are 7 servings in an 8 oz bag.

They sell 1 oz bags at the interstate rest stop near our lake in the vendo machines.  Those are a good dosage size because you can always eat the whole bag at once, then pitch the wrapper before they spill all over the boat.  The normal 2.5 oz bags are hard to finish at one time.  They are rich tasting.  The 8 oz bag is definitely a multi-trip bag.

If you ever see them on Amazon that cheap again, let me know.  I didn't realize when you posted last summer that they were that big.

No problem I will ,I am looking for more also .

Last summer we met some friends at the local watering  hole .

They ( the watering hole ) puts out appetizers  ,one being the gardetto mix . Well every always digs  for the Rye Chips until they are gone .

So one day I brought in a bag of the chips and didn't tell anyone . I made sure that they all saw me eating them , they just kept digging until the bowl was empty .

Went on for about 5 minutes ,I guess you had to be there .

Just got back from Lowes, while I was standing in line I looked over and look what I saw;
