Okay, don't celebrate just yet ... sit back down and after you wipe the soda (pop, if you're into that) off of your monitor, read this and help me out if you can.

I have a short list. Really short now but I'm struggling a little bit. Boat one is a 2024 leftover 22LX sport. The other is a 2025 22M class. Both boats have Yam 200hp and are of the Swingback persuasion. Neither have the second Captain's chair which is a command straight from the Admiral. As you might expect, the M costs more than the LX by roughly $10K. The reason the difference isn't larger is due to the MSRP on the LX, which is roughly $10k higher than the M. Both boats look great, especially the LX due to the smooth sides (Avalon style with the frame BEHIND the sheeting). However, I am concerned about damage over time due to that design (Airstream trailer owners get it!).

There are 3 options the 2025 M has that I want. It has center tube storage which the LX lacks. The new swingback for 2025 does some awesome tricks with the retractable keeper rail and the ability to have forward AND rear facing passengers simultaneously. The Admiral's station does its own little swingback trick allowing her to ride forward or rear facing. Nice. Some might say they copied Barletta but hey, at least they didn't add a dog bowl (oops, wait, they did and this one has it). I'm glad they did all of that with the seats though because Benny's lack of those kind of features nearly drove me to Barletta.

Initially I thought to myself $10k was a lot to pay for those 3 or 4 things but there is more. They added a tip out garbage can which also has a flip up table. Just don't use both at once or it will be like the little brat on the plane slamming his seat back the moment the flight attendant places your filled-to-the-rim rum and coke on the tray table. They digitized all of the gauges. Most or all of the switches are digital too. Some may not like that but I've seen all types of switches fail over time so I'm fine with it. Besides that these systems have been around a while. They spiffed up the helm quite a bit with some fancy compartments and other little tricks here and there too.

The only feature that I have found that the M lacks but the LX has is Simtex. However, that is a plus for us if we go with the M because we weren't thrilled with it in our 2017. I was afraid I was going to stain or rip it. I know it's probably not that fragile and it's supposed to clean up great but either way, I'm fine with the vinyl on the M and more importantly ... so is the Admiral.

The reason I'm soliciting advice, experiences and educated opinions here isn't so much about the extra $10k. That money buys me some desired options, some new, surprise things and a year newer boat which might be worth it all by itself. I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. I've been away from the brand since 2019 and much has changed. Did Bennington change anything for the worse between 2024 and 2025? Do you know something about the M or LX Sport you'd like to share that perhaps I should factor in? I have not missed center tube storage in my last two pontoons but I did like having it in my first. However, the only thing I ever ended up putting in there were the fenders and that made the compartment dirty and smelly after a while. On top of that, retrieving said fenders at the end of the day made for some undignified crawling on the floor. A vast majority of the time it will be only my wife and I on the boat or perhaps 1 or 2 passengers at most, who likely won't ride in rear facing seats the M now offers in the swingback area so that wouldn't be terribly missed. The Admiral will probably never use the front facing position at her post because it would require an ottoman which seems unnecessary and makes for another thing to store. Without an ottman it appers to be less comfortable than the captains chair she didn't want in the first place. Maybe Simtex improved since 2017 and I'd be missing out on that? The LX has a manual bimini where the M has the electric one but I was not crazy about that on my 2017 (I did write about why - it's buried here somewhere on the forum).

So when is the party?

Exciting!

Well, I don’t think you go wrong with either one. The ‘24 LX Sport is a great set up. I really like them! Also tried and true over the last few years.

However, the M is a new model this year that comes in three trim variants. I really liked the videos I watched about the three versions of it and really liked the looks of them a lot. Because it’s a brand new model lineup, I personally don’t know anyone with first hand experience with one yet. I think this cuts both ways. Lots of new features and aspects, including that unique digital helm set up. Flip side is no track record on some of that since its all new.

As mentioned, the M comes in 3 different “trim” variants. Which one is the one you are looking at?

Just off the cuff, I might lean into that M. A year newer. A modern look and aesthetic that should set it apart more in the short run, as well as presumably “age more gracefully” aesthetically if other manufacturers move in similar digital display helm directions in the future.

My only personal reservation being potential future repairs of that digital set up vs compartmentalized helm components on a more traditional helm display set up…

That said, it sounds like the M also has a few more options, and due to its model, a few more neat tricks/features like the waste basket/table. A couple of those features might prove to be nice over time since they’d be new to you. Conversely though, I also suppose some of them might end up being seldom used, so I guess who knows, right!?!

I personally am intrigued by the M’s electronic helm. Also, having an older Swingback set up, I’d personally LOVE all the adjustability of the newer swingback seats as well as an adjustable keep rail. At the same time, none of that would be essential as the basic swingback and keeper rail set up is super nice already.

The M I’m looking at is simply a 22MSB so I guess it’s the base trim? That’s all the dealers in my decent sized circle have in stock.

I definitely want either the keeper rail or the rear fencing but I get why some people don’t. It seems to me once you’re anchored and sitting back there, rear facing, it’s only in the way. Having the ability to make it go away at will seems great.

I have a '21 26LX. Center storage is crucial (for us), tubes, floats, ski lines. The drop-down keep rail - so wish we had that, but not a deal breaker (the center storage would be). Love our Simtex - cleans up easily and still looks like new - and in our 110 plus degree heat - the fact that it breaths is very nice. The extra features may bring better resale if current budget is not an issue, though a newer model is often a plus 10% +/- at resale. We will wait patiently for pictures!!!!

My current boat the ski locker is a must, we have kids and grandkids that ski and kneeboard so I store them in the ski locker. The new 24LXSSB I purchased but haven't picked up also has the ski locker. If you don't have to store a bunch of stuff I think the swing back has lots of storage by the looks of it but I'm not sure. I understand many people want to deal with a local dealer and that makes sense. For me, the only close local Bennington dealer didn't have anything close to what I wanted so I shopped around on the internet. There are so many great deals out there right now I wouldn't settle until I exhausted an internet search. Cost me $2400 to have boat delivered from Indiana to Maine. I need to stop looking now but I can't help myself. Fount a beautiful Q series with a Yamaha 300 electric steering and digital control all decked out marked from 197K to 109k. Beautiful boat.

I love the keeper rail but the one I found at the boat show was a little clunky to move up and down. Could have been just me learning how to use it, but I love the concept to get the best of both worlds. I would add it to my 22 SXSB, but a little pricey right now. Kind of like adding a front Bimini, seems cheaper to get it original from the factory versus added after the fact. The Co-Captain chair is a must for my spouse, but we have a Bennington cooler / foot stool that I fortunately purchased used on Craigslist that works great.

Now that is a discount!

Both boats are beautiful and well appointed! (Yup I've seen pics!) You can't go wrong with either one! But if I were to choose I'd go ..... M class! It's a 2025, has that beautiful dash and helm, in floor storage, Terry's adjustable seat, etc. On the other hand the 2024 LX has a cooler more streamlined exterior, a beautiful dash and helm but it doesn't have that adjustable Terry seat and the front port side lounge seat just ends with no backrest.Good luck brotha! We will sit on either one this summer! Ha!

We looked at the M Series at the Greensboro boat show recently. Very impressed. Beautiful boat.

We added rear fencing and the lillipad ladder to our boat last summer. Grandkids was one reason. And, in Virginia, it's against the law to ride back there rear facing, while moving, if no fencing or rails. Not in NC, but I'm told you might still get lectured. Not smart in any case. Odds are you aren't riding back there, or leaving Norman, so...... But we go to Smith Mountain Lake more than others.
