Couple of initial observations/questions on my 26 foot Q series. The bow seat fill cushion has a couple of holes in it upon delivery at the base, hoping warranty covers that? Put in the water last night, had trouble starting, I guess wasn't in neutral, but the safety key toggle, what is that for? It starts without it in place?

Also what is the skeg depth needed? I have the 250hp evinrude, how much water do you need with the tilt fully up? How much when the engine is level does the skeg protrude?

My boat lift was converted to handle the three toons. I was surprised the installer put three flat 14' long boards down, I thought it would be like the trailer and have support angled for each toon?

Hope for a full weekend of boating, not sure weather will co operate though

This is our lift and it's been fine for 8 years. Did your dealer go over the boat with you and water test? I would call the dealer.

1.  Yes, warranty will cover your seats

2.  It will start without toggle rope in place, but should not start if toggle itself is not in middle position.  This is for safety, some people attach them to their clothing in case they get thrown from helm seat, will stop engine.  Most people let them dangle.

3.  The dealer probably set your engine height up so there is no chance of prop blow out or cavitation.  If you want the best performance out of the engine, your anti-ventilation plate on your lower unit should just be skimming the top of the water.

4.  Your tilt is something you are going to have to get use to and learn as you go.  When starting off most people have the tilt at 0, or all the way down, your motor is vertical in the water, this gets you up on plane quicker (top of water).  As you pick up speed, you start to trim your engine up, this provides less drag in the water, the engine and boat run more efficiently, you burn less gas.  You will know your trim is up too much when   a.  You get prop blowout or your prop starts to ventilate.  b.  If your rpm's start to go above what the engine manufacturer recommends for WOT (Wide Open Throttle),   c.  You start to lose speed as you trim up, you are trimmed up too much.  If you know you are going to take a sharp turn and you are trimmed up quite good, you may want to trim down when you start to make the turn, it will keep your prop from blowing out or cavitating.  It really is something you have to learn, then it is like riding a bike.

5.  As above, your boat lift is fine, I converted mine the same way.  As long as your guides are set properly, you will be on the boards at all times.

Thanks gents, my lift looks exactly like that. As for the key, it will start if the toggle is in or out, I did get a test ride but it was months ago. The dealer did say it will start even without the toggle in but clarified that with something which I can't remember! I forgot the tilt should be up when running, I was doing the opposite, putting fully down at speed! Glad I asked

Well said Scott....
