Based on this video posted in 2011, the center tube was 32", just like the current ESP: http://club.benningtonmarine.com/threads/bennington-video.7/. Sounds like you're looking at a pretty similar boat to ours (23 RFB) and in perfect conditions, we'll top out at 45 mph or so with the 250 SHO...
The ESP gives a more traditional V-hull feel when turning. I have driven both and didn’t find the difference staggering. I would not do anything less than 250 hp on an ESP setup, mainly due to the weight. If I recall, there was about 700 lbs difference between the SPS .100 and the ESP on a 23...
That‘s interesting, a friend pulled me around to the front of the port toon this past weekend to show me bubbles coming up next to a strake. It was very loud (especially in the echo chamber between the toons) and sounded almost like the bilge cavitating). I’d heard the noise before and it was...
Ha - I took some pictures and video a few days ago and just got around to posting them. Oh well, for posterity's sake: IMG_1035 by Will, on Flickr
Also some pictures of the R23 helm, I agree that the shape of the center part of the helm that the GO9 mounts to looks different than Headshothilks...
I’ll take some pictures this weekend if we go to the lake. The shape of the panel looks pretty similar, but the materials are slightly different. I also floated the idea of the GO5 on the right, i measured to see if I might be able to squeeze a GO7 in there but it’s probably 1/4” too narrow...
I can certainly appreciate the value of having an aluminum prop to prevent damage to the lower unit. A counterpoint to that is, I’m guessing hitting a rock with aluminum would have stranded me in the lake. Sometimes that’s not a big deal and sometimes it is. I think you would also see much...
It has little ridges on the side to put your fingers, I just pull up there and twist slightly. Pops right off. You can kinda see them on the picture on Simrads site: https://www.simrad-yachting.com/simrad/type/accessories/simrad-sun-covers/go9-xse-suncover/
I have the GO9, did not get a sun cover with the boat but ordered one from Simrad. It fits mine perfectly and is very easy to take on or off. I throw it in the helm pocket when we go out.
Thanks gents and thank you Burris Prop for the offer. I’ll keep that in my back pocket, but told a guy this morning I’d be dropping the prop of to him this weekend.
Thanks guys, to be clear I’m definitely planning to repair or replace the prop before running again. It sounds like most don’t think there is much risk in waiting to get the lower unit inspected until after the season, is that a fair assessment?
Hey Folks - out Saturday and went too close to a shallow hazard, I thought I was clear but the bottom felt differently. The prop struck a rock or possibly multiple rocks, likely resting on or jutting out from the bottom. I immediately put the engine in neutral, cut it off, and raised the trim...
Thanks guys, not a huge deal. If that’s the worst lesson I learn with a boat I’ll count myself lucky. It was just a spring snap carabiner, I simply didn’t foresee the gate being opened by the anchor itself. For what it’s worth, Slide Anchor is including a shackle with the new one I have on...
Hi Guys - based largely on the recommendations on here I purchased a Small Slide Anchor Box Anchor from Amazon. I also bought a nylon anchor line and a stainless steel carabiner rated at 600 lbs. I went this route out of concern for a pin backing out of a shackle.
On its second use...
