I have a 2018 and mine had trace mildew already last summer. I contacted Bennington directly and they sent me the attached. Step 1 and 2 failed, step 3 worked, a solution of mild diluted detergent along with dilute (10%) bleach. I was surprised as many said to avoid bleach, but Bennington said...
My Bennington dealer said Sharkhide is a waste of money and washes off in a year or less - here in our brackish waters of NJ Barnegat Bay. What is the experience of others?
I had a pontoon damaged by my marina when lifting it about one year after I purchased it.
My advice: Contact your dealer for repair AND contact Bennington directly. Get advice from both about how to best repair or replace the pontoon.
You can be sure Bennington will reach out to your dealer and...
Do you have fenders?
They scone in really handy at other docks and for rafting to other boats.
I also keep a 2nd anchor on board for those times when I tie up at a beach.
Do you have a good 2 way radio with channel 16 and weather?
And lastly, are your flares up to date?
That is why I am avoiding bleach. I know from prior experience with other materials that bleach will weaken the stitching.
While the PDF supplied above says use 409 cleaner, my owners manual specifically says do NOT use 409.
Sometime around 2017 or 2018 Bennington switched to a new vinyl "cloth". It is NOT the traditional vinyl, it is much more fabric like, and has a textured surface.
I am calling it Morbern because that is how it is described in my Bennington Owner's manual. It clearly says "Do not use 409 or...
I have a 2018 Bennington with the Morbern vinyl seats. I am surprised that I already have mildew on the front seat backs and and a small amount on the seats.
It is an an area that never stays wet - in fact since I do cover my pontoon after each trip, the seats are in full sun most days. I clean...
I should have added that I often do not cover my boat. The Bimini mostly covers the back seats and I have custom covers for the two captains chairs and the console. The front seats are seldom covered.
Boats are meant to get wet!
I have the same holes drilled in the seat supports. Rain drains through them onto the floor and does collect under the seats on the floor, but it drains away or dries up quite quickly. Of note, the cup holders on the driver side have drain tubing that goes through the floor. The cupholders on...
I'm the lazy one.
Bimini stays up and cover stays off all summer unless a major storm is coming. I like to relax on the boat at my dock in the evenings - I consider it my extended living room So, No I am not constantly taking that cover on and off.
Before you buy a backup battery, check that your new boat does not already come with two. My Bennington was equipped with twin batteries from the factory.
I guess I'm the lazy guy. My boat sits out in the open and I almost never cover it. Since I dock bow in with no dock fingers, putting on the cover from inside the boat is a hassle - and hurts my back.
It's damp in the morning, but it stays remarkablly clean.
I am guessing they lifted it off my trailer with their forklift. I think that's what did this damage. When I asked the shop owner about it he said "We only lift with straps so we could not have done this". But I think a worker lifted the boat with the forklift to get the straps on. The dealer...
