My last topic has generated this one, so hang with me:)

In my shopping and building spree on Bennington's, I have noticed the starting price (on the builder on Bennington website) for the 23 GCW is $44,562.  The starting price for the 23 RCW is $52,538.  Thats a $7,976 difference.  I know the R has the ladder standard and perhaps some of the stainless to enclose the stern seats, and I assume a few other items.  What else is that much difference to drive up the starting price?  Anything structural or is it all the appearance of the topside?

I just ordered a 23 RCW Closed Stern and did a lot of research  on both. As you stated many options are standard on R that are build in price of boat versus the G version. Like KMC 10, Striker Fish/Depth finder, SS docking lights, Chrome Lettering and most of the difference is the helm and furniture. The helm is actually no different than Q but more sporty than G. The furniture is wider on front loungers and has the fold down cup holders. I feel both boats are great. The only reason I went with R is I liked Helm and my wife's forward facing  lounger is about 6 inches longer  due to smaller port door opening. I paid only $2,800 for basically the same adds on the R and  wife got the seat she loved and I got what I consider to be a better helm.

You covered that very well. We spent the last few months going through this exact same thing. If you're adding very many options to the G series you can move up to a R for minimal difference in actual cost. The difference for us was less than $2000 actual pricing, not msrp. I totally agree on the R helm, it's a much nicer looking helm in my opinion, others mat prefer the G helm.

Rumor is there "might" be a redisigned "G" helm this year, but I couldn't wait any longer. I'm really gonna miss my elevated R helm, but I just couldn't justify the price difference, just for the nicer helm. One other thing the RCW has, vs. GCW, is the R has the swept sides, vs. the G with the enclosed rear. This was a big battle between my wife and I, but in the end, we just LOADED our G order with everything we could want, including Blackout, and ended up cheaper than a "No Blackout" R. We had a set budget and were adamant about sticking to it.

I will say, if the new G helm comes out, and it looks good, I may just plop down a couple grand and buy one and swap out mine.

So do I go from the G up to the Q?  It's like a disease:)  Honestly, the Q that I spec'd out isn't that much more either:)

I would say if your budget allows it, AND, you WANT it more than a G, go for it. Make sure you have good justification, such as majority of forum members agree that you should .....  :D

   so true....

I say do what you can afford. I am recovering from PADS selling my less than year old G for a larger motor and ESP on the R. I was going to get the GCW because for what I considered a small increase price it was worth it.

Buy what you like..... along with what you can afford!! If you like the look of a Q and it's feasible to do so we have your back! :)   if the G fits then wear it, just expect a few more wedgies at the sandbar!! ;)

I feel like the newbs do on the Mastercraft Team Talk site....So many questions:)

That's what we ended up doing. We were looking to buy a decked out G with a 250 and ended up with a Q and a 350. It was more than we had budgeted but only a small amount compared to the price we were already going to be Paying for the G. We both agreed that we had to love what we ordered since it would be a long time purchase. We won't be changing it anytime soon no matter how much we may want to so we paid more now to hopefully be satisfied for a while.

I say in this situation, with a nicely equipped "Q", this might be one of the only times I've seen a post like this and agree ......

I think maybe you are one of the few, resistant to the strain.

IMO in addition to the helm the biggest difference is the quality of the seats between the G and the R.  My friend that has a G got into my boat and asked if his boat was wider than mine as he noticed the less floor space between the port and stern front seats.  I guess everything has pluses and minuses

And for us the extra floor space is nice so the little guy has room to play and run around. That's why there is something like 256 Bennington combinations! One for every family!

Yeah, those fold down armrests are definitely a plus ..... I wonder if I could sneak my R stuff off the boat at night and swap with the G stuff on the new boat ??????

We'll have to be immune to the strain for a few years lol.
