We just took delivery on our 2575 QSB.  We pondered and wanted the same thing to have the ability to ride back there while the boat was under power.  My dealer sent me the same pick and we also said that was a horrible design as people have to start crawling over people to get off.  We chose to forget it we like the more open look anyway, feels and looks more like a runabout opened up.  Totally had your exact same opinion.

Good to hear I'm not the only one overthinking this:) with all the advice I've heard on the forum about asking for a customization I plan on asking my dealer if this can be changed - worth a shot!

I would venture that all on here that have bought a boat has agonized over their decisions, know I did.

Bennington puts great effort into the design of the boats hence the large numbers of models and options.  Not every single person is going to be happy with every single design.

Personally I would have people sit facing forward when underway, my boat my rules.  Once stopped I would just as soon not have the safety railing on the back of the swingback at all for access and view

Link, with our rear lounger it is really nice for water sports. When someone goes down it provides instant notice to the driver vs the spotter who is sitting forward but turning back around.

Agree with ya lakeliving, I couldn't imagine buying a floor plan that has rear facing loungers that can't be used underway- everyone's rules are different though- mine would be no kids on the back while moving- But perfect for adults cruising slow and or water sport watchers. Just wish they designed the bar slightly different as it would have vastly improved the functionality.

Since we don't tow never thought of this aspect Lakeliving, yes that would be important for towing.

And as BeezyB noted I have changed my mind and would allow adults only on my typical slow cruise to do so without the safety bar.  I looked at the boat builder and do see the safety bar is an optional add on for $735.  I would still prefer not to have it but after Lakeliving pointed it out for towing I do see if necessary if that is your goal.   Perhaps custom build is your best solution

So maybe im a bit confused. Is the fence a legal necessity to ride backwards while underway or is it a just a safety preference? Do these types of boating laws change by state?

Not sure about the laws ,my concern would be for the safety of others on board .

We boat in Missouri, and this is a paragraph right out of the Missouri State Boating Handbook.  I would guess it's very similar in other states as well.  Hope this helps.

It probably changes state to to state or county to county- so I called the marine patrol supervisor from my county's sheriff department and they were extremely helpful. She looked at some pictures and confirmed that in my county, it would not be legal to ride on the rear lounger while the boat is underway. Dealer also stated that while he has seem some customization, the  request to alter the railing would not be possible.  Unfortunately- that eliminates the rsbw for me. I wish the rsr fastback came with a windscreen version. Oh well.
