Hey everyone, I am considering buying a 2575 with a 6.2 Mercruiser I/0.    What have you heard about this motor?  How does it perform on a Tri-Toon, etc.   Thanks

Most of the Benny owners on this forum have out boards. (Like 99%!)

My 4.3L Mercruiser I/O has performed well for the 9 seasons we have had it. Although we had an issue last season that turned out to be a simple fuse that fed the fuel pump that was resolved.

It cruises well, has a good hole shot for skiing, wakeboarding etc. etc. and we have been very satisfied with it.

Its the only motor we have ever had in the 2 boats we have owned. The downside to it is you have to winterize it and we are unable to take full advantage of beautiful 80 degree days like today. Because if we took it out today who knows how the temp is going to be next week. Don't want that block freezing. After all it's still February..........

That 6.2 is a marine version of the GM car/truck engine.  Not sure the differences in a street vs marine set up.  In the street version it is a beast, over 400 hp in stock form and gobs more hopped up.  I have and had several versions of what is the gen 3, now gen 4 version of the small block chevy and they are rock solid.  Various websites are full of info and videos on them, mostly street related, but the power they can make is unreal.  In stock form, I have an 03, 5.3 with 170,000 miles, and an 03, 6.0 with 100,000.  They are basically the same architecture with different bore and stroke for displacement.

Thanks guys.

I found an older post regarding this motor.  I would prefer a similar size outboard.  But those are hard to come by in my budget.  I am not looking forward to the maintenance cost.   It does appear winterizing is not hard to do yourself based off of the video's I watched.  It was a high dollar Benni back in the day.  I am going to buy and hope I can do more of the maintenance myself.  Lets hope the engine compartment allows me to.

If you just drain everything you should be fine.  I had a 4.3 in a bow rider and I just pulled all the drain plugs, poked a wire in the drain to make sure nothing blocks them.  Also, pulled the lowest hoses off one end.  Lower water pump hose had a drain in the new one I put on.  Never did antifreeze, so there is no additional cost just time.  Engine fogged, oil, filter and drive lube,  good to go.  Contorting your body to get to block plugs can be a bitch.

The majority of my 50 or so years of boating experience has been with an I/O set-up but I'm in love with my Verado outboard! Much quieter and a lot less maintenance and no winterizing to speak of compared with my previous engine.

That said, if what you found fits your budget, then I'm sure it will work just fine for you. Welcome to the "club"!

Michman...I'm not sure if anything fits my budget.  I drove it today.  Going 35 on white caps it handled the water smoothly and with ease.  I am going to buy it.  It was awesome.  Just having to get passed the paying for it aspect :)

Congratulations! Welcome to the club!

Congratulations! I'm absolutely sure it's awesome and will give you great pleasure. As far as the paying for it part, you'll quickly find it worth every penny!

Sounds like a beast. Lets see some pictures!

It is a beast.  30 feet bow to stern.  I keep telling myself it is worth the money.  Just hard to watch my bank account dwindle right now.  I will pick it up on a couple of weeks.  the process is slow on the brokers end.

I know what you speak of. Not too many other toons out there will be a match for what you have coming. In the beginning, it'll feel like you're parking a luxury motor coach, but you'll get the hang of it in no time.

I purchased "The Beast" a week ago.  Making the road trip on Wednesday to pick her up.  I have no idea where I am going to park it.  Won't my neighbors be happy...(insert sarcasm)

However, my profile pic was taken in my backyard.  Another month or so and she will have her home in the water until the fall.  It's going to be a great summer.

Congratulations  Ntwkbound, I also am a fan of IO, think they look better than having that big outboard on the back.  Can't wait to see pictures of it

Honestly, unless you've owned a boat before you have no idea just how great it's going to be! Enjoy!

That is an understatement! I think you know within a couple trips out if you are a boater. "Boaters to be" may not realize the costs involved, but it's worth every penny!!!
