Is it a rocker style or push button? I had a push button style one go bad and it was simple to swap out. Inside the helm I removed the backer board or whatever you want to call it. Unscrewed the wiring harness retainer nut from the appropriate switch. Then pulled the connector off. Then I was able to unscrew the switch mounting locknut and pop it out.
I was also wondering if there is simply a loose connection under the helm leading to the switch given the description of how it’s going in and out. Maybe on and off contact with motion…?
The rocker switch for our docking lights failed and I was able to swap the wires to an installed, but unused ACC rocker. I looked briefly, but was not able to find a replacement for the failed switch.
