I have been looking at grills for on the boat. I have seen different styles which mount on the rail and hang over the water " which I like" and ones the need a floor mount and is on a pole. My concern with the ones that mount to the rail and hangs over is will it bend my railing. What do you use on your boats for grilling on the water.

Nick did a custom rail mount for his grill. Maybe someone can share the link.

Right here:

I dug that setup, but it was a pain trailering and taking it on and off. Scuffed up the railing a bit but not bad. It didn't bend it at all. Oh, and that grill is awesome. Now I just put it in the bag and bring it camping on the boat and then leave it on the beach. I was thinking about mounting it on the new boat but there just isn't any good rail space like on my 22 SSX.

I have a Magma round grill which I have mounted over the side rail.  It works well there.  I admit to having fed the fish a hotdog or 2!

This same grill can be mounted on a post or with a set of legs.  I don't trailer with it attached.

It should not bend your railing as there is really not much weight to deal with.  (My railings will break before they bend.  They're mahogany!)

Good Luck with your selection.

I bought a Magma grill and pedestal kit, and will mount it in the stern on the port side as soon as the shrinkwrap comes off (which should be soon). :)

I have a pedestal-mounted propane grille on the aft port extended deck.

Honestly, after the first few uses, the thrill is gone. Didn't use it at all last summer.

YMMV

This is also my set up.

We'll be mounting the Magma Chefsmate on the aft galley table (just bought the SPDX!!). Where do you store the grill after? We'll have a dock and I'm going to try and be diligent about putting the cover on every time.

Thinking about buying the cover for it so it doesn't scuff up anything on the boat when not in use, but is it really worth it or should I just get a large canvas bag for it... Not sure how this is going to go yet...

Bumping to see how everyone takes care of their grills

We grill on the back deck of the house.  I shudder to think of cooking on the boat.  Grease splatters everywhere.

I have to agree with Remediation on this one, we take a grill with us while out boating once in a while but it is used on shore only.

I have a Magma grill as well and mount it on the stern starboard side.  I wish I would have bought the next size larger but man those suckers are so expensive.  All in all I absolutely love having it mounted there.  You are not supposed to be moving/running the mount when it's mounted though.

Something tells me you will be using it today!!!

Depends on what you're cooking.  Since I've given up red meat I usually cook chicken or pork, turkey dogs if I'm feeling lazy, and last week it was shrimp kabobs. None of those splatter compared to hamburgers. The worst thing to cook is the 30% fat hamburger or brats. If you're making burgers use lean ground beef.  Better for your heart, better for your boat.

Eating healthy brought to you by the guy with a bucket of fried chicken as his profile pic!!!

When I do brats I preboil them before we head out....then yer just browning them up on the grill.

I get out of work at 4pm.  Wife is already home to help me put the boat in after that.  Will take her and our 3 1/2 year old twins out on it.  Cannot WAIT.

I'm jealous! Enjoy this beautiful day out on the water with your family!

Mount it on the rail as close to a verticle support as possible. You will get less twist on the rail.

KeithKZ - which grill did you get? We're looking at the ChefsMate from Magma.

Finally found a picture of the factory grill setup I have on my GCWB.....
