Bennington changing back to traditional vinyl?

I'm in the process of ordering a 2026 25RX Sport and the dealer tells me Bennington is starting to phase out Simtex across their lineup in favor of a more traditional vinyl. I supposedly can still get Simtex if I want it but eventually the Simtex material will runout. I asked if it will be the same as the 2025 M series veneto soft touch vinyl and they said it will probably be a little better on the R and Q series compared to the M series. I saw an early 2026 RT bowrider and it had a combination of simtex in the accent areas (cross-stitched seat back areas and the side faces of the bench seats that would be up against your calves) with very smooth (no texture at all) vinyl in other areas. On the Bennington website for the new 2026 QX it describes "veneto premium soft touch vinyl furniture". I'm wondering if this is a cost cutting move or more in response to complaints of cleanability of simtex and also while being an improvement in technology over the old traditional vinyl.

I am undecided what upholstery material to order. I was satisfied with the eight years on my 2018 23R with simtex even though it was more difficult to clean as many have commented. I liked the abrasion/wear resistance. We have two big dogs in the extended family and their toenails can be quite rough on the seats especially when we pass other aggressive dogs on the river and they start barking and digging in their toenails (yes, we do try to mitigate with towels and keep them off the seats but not always successful). We've only got a couple very very minor scratch marks on the simtex that are barely noticeable, certainly no tears. I'm a bit nervous the new soft touch vinyl won't be as abrasion/wear/tear resistant as the simtex. Comments?

The material change does not surprised me. Bennington is dedicated to product improvement and that is never in a straight line. Simtex looks soft and inviting while actually feeling a bit abrasive. Many other hard to evaluate pluses and minuses. Bennington was first to use it and now first to pull away for all application. Now others are just starting to use it. It’s tough to be a leader.

Agree, love my Simtex and prefer it over friends' boats where I stick to their "traditional vinyl" seats in our 110 plus degree summers! However, I think the new fabric Bennington is pursuing is far from this old school vinyl!

Agree. I love the softer feel of the Simtex, and not sticking to it in heat. Also, my understanding is it’s a newer vinyl, not a return to “traditional vinyl”. That said, I have no experience or real information yet on the change myself.

Honestly, I am scarred to know about it and other updates recently. I cannot afford PADS! :D

Just a follow up on the new veneto soft touch vinyl. During our boat ordering process we were offered to still go with simtex but we did not necessarily like the available simtex colors so we ended up choosing the gray veneto with midnight blue simtex accents in the diamond stitched seat backs. WE have not had our new 2026 RXSBA a few weeks. My initial impression was positive. I can see the veneto vinyl will be easier to keep clean. However, it's very smooth (with no texture to it) and feels kind of thin. And unfortunate for me the veneto vinyl is VERY sensitive to scratches such as from dogs even just walking on it. I wish I could ban the grand dog from going on the boat at all but that's not happening. We try to keep the seats covered as much as possible with towels. I've sustained more damage in a few weeks than I did in 8 years on my old boat with all simtex vinyl. I would definitely NOT recommend this material to anybody that is concerned with scratches/tears/abrasions.

Helpful information for others. I have not seen the new Veneto in person myself.
