Bottom Painting - DONE!!

Here it is! Thanks to Rod and his team at ATW Marine in Tarpon Springs, FL, for the AWESOME bottom job! The before photos are after about five months in a wet slip, and that's with monthly cleaning! One photo shows a keel that came loose, Bennington was very cool about warrantying the welding repair through ATW Marine, and not necessarily a dealer, thanks to Benny for the love!

A wet slip, as you all know, in Florida is rough on toons, but shit, I did not buy this boat to trailer it all the time...that's a skill I am far too good at LOL. The paint will sure help, and this may be unconventional, I plan on continuing to wet slip this bad boy. It was $2K for the paint or buy a high and dry cradle for probably the same amount of money. Plus the high and dry was about $100 more monthly...

Haven't been able to take it out and crank it up yet, I'm interested in if there really is a noticeable loss of speed. Then again, a 115 HP toon was not bought for racing LOL.

looks great! I only wonder if now with the rougher surface if there is more for algae and grime to cling to? I am very interested in a report is a couple months. I too leave mine in the water for months at a time and cleaning is a real pain

Can a low-pressure pressure washer clean up the toons decently?

Great job! Were they able to get the area that sat on the foam blocks? Had to ask. Ha! Also how long will that bottom paint last? Is this something that has to be done every couple years or so?!?

They did jack it up to adjust the foam blocks...did a super job. All reports and research are that I need a new topcoat every year, about $400 or so...thank God I'm a billionaire LOL

I slip my boat 6 months a year and I have the bottom paint. First year I had the boat I expected the bottom paint to keep all the growth off the bottom and not need any other care or maintenance to do it’s job. Right, not sure where that dream came from. Marine growth still accumulates on the underside. Not an extreme amount but enough that I take a green pad and wipe down the underside of the toons about once a month. Usually do this while on a sandbar, it makes it quite easy to do. Last year I had to pull the boat in July, so while I had it out of the water I pressure washed the bottom. What a difference that made for the end of year cleanup and I plan on pulling the boat every year, about halfway through the season, to clean the bottom and do any other maintenance I can’t get to in the slip.

Hey John....We keep our boat in the water from May to October. Just about everytime we go out after eating one of many meals in our boat we'll jump in and float on our throw pillows or saddles and take out a rag or sponge and wipe the water line or the entire tube. That crap doesn't have the chance to accumulate going out at least a couple times a week. Doesn't take long.....

Daril, it doesn’t take long at all. A 2 beer job at most. I’ll do it while we are anchored up on a sandbar. Read about doing that on here. I do it about once a month. I’m 3 miles from my marina and have a trailer, so it’s not a big deal to pull it, bring it home, pressure wash it and the next day give it a wash and wax. I can invite my friends that like to go fishing on it over for the cleaning party. Makes for easy work then I can fix anything that needs fixing before I take it back and put it in with a boat full of fishermen for some evening fishing.
