Cantilever toon hoist help

When you guys put your toon on the hoist, do you pull boat up far enough for supports to stick out back?  I was told to this both ways.  Is there a right or wrong?

I would think it depends on the length of your boat, length of your bunks, size of your engine, and size of your lift.    I'd want it pretty well balanced....


On a trailer, they want it pretty close to the end of the tubes for full support
